Master These Three Things and You'll be 90% there to be a Stand-Out Leader.

Master These Three Things and You'll be 90% there to be a Stand-Out Leader.

It’s the first of July.?

Let’s do a quick reflection of my June takeaways.?

Things are changing a bit at our Coaching HQ.

My niche has always been confidence and assertiveness? - but it seemibly calving it's own way - and I love it!

Your confidence and how you communicate greatly impacts on what relationships you create and how you show up within them.?

Whether a relationship with your:

~ Boss

~ Friend?

~ Partner

How you manage that relationship will directly impact your experience within it.?

So in my opinion there are three areas that need to be mastered in order to become a stand out leader:

1?? Communication skills ?

2?? Listening/Evaluation skills?

3?? Self-regulation/Control - esp in tense situations?

Ok, Let’s break these down:

1?? Communication skills.?

The ability to communicate in a way that gains credibility and be taken seriously.?

Solid communication skills provide clarity and safety for other people in the team to be open, creative, and curious.?

2?? Listening and evaluating skills.?

The ability to be able to listen - I mean truly listen!?

as opposed to waiting for your turn to speak.?

However here is the secret most leaders miss:?

Solid listening skills are beyond listening to just the words.

It requires you to read body language and between the lines of what’s REALLY going on in that exact moment.?

The higher your EQ and confidence the easier this will be for you.?

3?? Self Composure/Control?

This to me is possibly one of the most essential and important leadership traits.?

How often do leaders deal with difficult conversations when emotions are running high?

A lot!?

But it’s not just your own emotions you have to respond to.?

The whole team are now under pressure?

~ now your team is getting snappy?

~ Others get defensive and reactive

~ Team now irritated and less connected

But here is the thing;?

You can take a team of 10 people who are all generally excellent at communicating and get on well?

But you chuck in

~ Different opinions

~ Disagreements in the office?

~ Behind schedule on deliverables?

Now you have:

~ 10 different heightened personalities

~ Trying to navigate their way?

~ through team disagreements and issues?

This is where many leaders struggle the most.?

A functioning team can become a broken team with enough stress and pressure.?

people who don’t know how to channel or resolve it.?

And these things never get better without the proper resolution/communication skills.?

That’s where I come in.?

I’m spending more and more time with companies - on these exact topics?

~ Conflict resolution ?

~ Setting and holding boundaries?

~ Passive aggression management?

~ Knowing how to be assertive in the least antagonising way?

Leadership is more than a title and making a?few decisions. ?

How you show up in whether it be an easy or difficult environment…

will be in direct correlation to how well you are respected and able to influence others as a leader.

But as always, these are just my thoughts - what are yours?

This is an excellent list and I agree that emotional control is crucial and the most difficult.

Communication is key not just with your team, but also with yourself. If you are not aware of the situation, you can't share it with others.

For me listening is so vital Angie ESP as a coach. I know I have had coaches who don't listen they just sit and waffle and that really did not help me. We have 2 ears and 1 mouth and they should be used in that ratio :)
