The theme of this Master Thesis is the analysis of the traditional architecture of the settlement Emporios on the island of Nisyros in the Aegean Sea. Due to the original condition in which the settlement has remained until today, an excellent opportunity for research is offered.

At the beginning of the study, we provide a description of the island and its history in order to give the reader a clear picture of this particular place. This is followed by a detailed analysis of Emporios as well as a thorough research and description of the building elements used in the settlement. In addition, certain houses were selected as characteristic examples and examined in more detail.

The aim of this Master Thesis is through the example of the Emporios settlement on Nisyros, the Greek folk architecture in the Aegean to introduce and promote the traditional konstruction practices and the use of natural materials.
