Graduate education in lectures and cutting-edge labs, international research collaborations with world-class scientists
Are you interested in a career in biotechnology, genetics, molecular biology, or?agribusiness?
The international Master of Science in Horticultural Genetics and Biotechnology programme at the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania on the island of Crete in Greece brings together some of the top professors in the field with students from various Mediterranean countries.
The programme provides students with a thorough grounding in the mechanisms, capabilities, uses and limitations of plant biotechnological methods and available technological platforms so they can solve problems related to horticultural production and product quality.
Working with genetics, plant biology and physiology, and -omics technological platforms, students may explore such topics as adaptation to climate change, agrofood authenticity, and plant phenomics.
Students begin with a one-year course curriculum that covers a variety of topics in biology, applied genetics, and horticultural biotechnology, culminating in an extended essay. The second year of the programme is focused on an independent scientific project that may involve extended work in the department’s state-of-the-art Laboratory of Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology.
Qualified candidates from CIHEAM member countries who are accepted in the department’s Master’s programme are eligible for scholarships that fully cover tuition, teaching material, board, lodging, health insurance and an allowance!
