MASTER RESELL RIGHTS COURSES… the next big thing or a bunch of BS??

I want to begin this article by saying that when this latest craze hit the scene I invested. I operate from a place of constant curiosity and something in me said to look into it myself. So I’m writing this as 1.) someone who has invested and 2.) someone who has already gone through a significant amount of the main course that is being sold by all the online peoples.

A bit of a backstory first though. I grew up in SLC, UT aka the MLM capital of the world. So I’m no stranger to multi-level marketing, network marketing, social selling, and affiliate marketing models. I have been pitched just about every damn thing on the market. And apart from a couple of bad decisions where I got roped in Amway style as a young adult, I have stayed FAR AWAY from these models most of my life. They just never felt good to me. I always felt a real sense of desperation in the way the products were marketed and I can not tell you how many friends I would watch at the end of each month harassing and pressuring their downlines to make sales and purchasing hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars in products to keep their coveted “ranks”. It just wasn’t ever for me.

Now… don’t get me wrong, there are many MLM/NWM products I have used and LOVED over the years. One of the best things about these industries is that some really amazing products do get brought to market this way. As my online business and platform started to grow, I was constantly being approached by someone who wanted me to align with their product and bring my community into the fold. But I never found anything that felt fully in integrity or aligned with my business. And I wasn’t going to introduce my community to something that I wouldn’t stand behind 100%.

Cut to 2020 just after lockdowns started. I was having some pretty serious health issues and I was introduced to a product that I was really excited about, I got amazing results, loved the mission and vision of the company and the people I met in the field selling the product. It was a full yes for me and I aligned with the product and introduced it to my community. Many of whom had really amazing success with it and the model in the early part of 2020. That period of time really changed how I saw the model and it felt to me like it might just be the new business paradigm. There were so many positive things I was seeing, and as a person whose highest value for her community is opening up additional streams of revenue so they can feel safe, stable, and secure… it really fit the bill in many ways.

I ran hard with the company that first year and then had some disappointing things happen that ultimately led me to pull back and put the business on hold. Over the next three years, I dipped in and out, trying to get re-engaged and reconnected, but it just wasn’t ultimately in the cards. Recently I have terminated my relationship with the company I was with and I don’t think I’ll be returning to the MLM/NWM space any time soon.

One of the most discouraging things that I encountered was the lack and scarcity mentality of many of the “leaders” in the NWM field. I’m sure this post will get shared around and probably fuel the fire of the absolute witch hunt that has been the last couple of months, but ultimately I just feel to share this story because I’ve seen a lot of things done right over the last few years and I’ve seen a lot of things done wrong. I’ve never been one to not just be fully transparent in what’s going on with me, and as I have navigated the MRR space over the last two weeks, I felt called to write this blog and share my story (along with my thoughts on MRR…which are coming I promise)!

I’m highly disturbed by the women (it’s interesting to note that I haven’t observed the men in MLM/NMW behave in this way) who claim to be in these businesses to empower and resource other women. Who build huge communities on the premise of supporting women to open up additional streams of revenue, but then attack any perceived threat and then bully and intimidate their downlines to keep lining their own pockets. They are EVERYTHING that is wrong with this industry.

Interestingly enough, most of the “attacking” of the MRR industry I have witnessed online has been from well-known leaders of NWM companies. Surprised? I’m not. They are fiercely protecting their checks. I’ll likely do another post on this or a podcast at some point and share a story from last year where one of my upline leaders attempted to bully and intimidate me into submission with emotional hijacking and manipulation. If you know me at all, you know I’m not one to be intimidated into submission, so it didn’t work out so well for her in the end.

I have seen so many people speaking out about bullying and intimidation by MLM/NWM leaders? online in the last couple of weeks. And I’m glad for it. These communities can become cult-like and vulnerable women who are seeking a better life for themselves and their families are easy prey. So, if you are in a situation like that… I’ll just say your upline DOES NOT OWN YOU. You are a sovereign, strong being and you are worthy of living a life that is free from guilt, manipulation, and intimidation.

If you see someone in the online space making videos about why you shouldn't do another business model… BE VERY WARY. Especially if that business model could in any way be a threat to the one they have currently hitched their wagon to!

I’m not anti-MLM/NMW in any way. And the day may come when I find another incredible product to associate myself with. Hell, that day could be tomorrow for all I know. And there ARE really amazing, heart-led, caring people of integrity in the space as well. I have made beautiful friends in this industry and have experienced incredible generosity from my upline leaders as well.?

Be wise in who you align yourself with, and don't be afraid to change your mind about something (or someone) if it becomes no longer aligned. You have every right! Okay…enough of all of that.

The purpose behind that was to give a little context of where I sit with the sister industries of MLM/NWM. I’m a big fan of affiliate marketing BTW, and always offer affiliate opportunities for my programs and courses. ADDITIONAL STREAMS OF REVENUE is the name of the game!!!

Now onto MRR. As you may or may not know MRR stands for master resell rights. The premise is that you purchase a course and you are given the rights to resell it for 100% of the profit. You don’t share that profit with anyone. So you make a $500 investment and you are given the course and the rights to resell it. You sell it to your best friend you make $500 (and your initial investment back).?

I had a really hard time wrapping my head around why anyone would do this in the beginning. And as someone who is a business coach… I wondered what could possibly be that good for $497. But like I said “constant state of curiosity”. So I bought the course and started going through the content.

Here’s my honest appraisal:

1. Some of it is so basic. There are lots of things I would take out and simplify. But the beauty of the course is that you own it and can use it as you like. You can sell it as is, or integrate it into your own programs, rebrand it, etc.

2. There is a lot of really, really good information in there. Including some things I’ve been trying to figure out on my own for YEARS. What’s in there is worth a whole lot more than $500. And as a business coach, I don’t say that lightly.

3. It’s a solid investment if you are doing any kind of business in the online space. The training is simple and easy to follow and produces results if you are disciplined and committed.

4. It is NOT a get-rich-quick solution. All business takes work. Anyone who tells you otherwise is trying to sell you something or lying or BOTH.?

5. If you have an audience and a community and are already selling business products and services, it’s a NO-BRAINER to purchase the course to then resell it to your community. I will be doing a version of that (with my own content and my own spin) because the product is really good and I can stand behind aligning my brand with it.?

6. If you aren’t already in the online business space, you could build a brand from the ground up and sell the course, but truth be told that’s a long road and requires a lot of work. It’s probably not the best way to make money quickly. And you really need to ask yourself if thst is something that ignites your soul and motivates you. Because if not, it will quickly become a chore and you will quit.

7. If you are looking to launch a business with your own product or service or a digital product, it’s a solid investment.

8. Not that I’ve seen the course and understand the process, I really, really like that it’s a 100% profit model. It feels clean. It feels amazing to pass something of value on to someone and have them not feel indebted to you, having to forever share 10 or 20% of their profits with you because you introduced them to something.

If you do decide after careful consideration and from a place of certainty, not scarcity or lack (please don’t do this…it never goes anywhere good) here are my recommendations for having the best success:

1. Be honest with yourself about your level of commitment and motivation. If you frequently don;t finish things you start or are easily overwhelmed, make sure you have mentorship from someone you trust alongside purchasing the course.

2. Be willing to dedicate 2 hours a day to navigating the course and getting systems set up in the 1st month.?

3. Be willing to dedicate 90 minutes a day of concentrated effort each day once the set up is done to begin seeing results.

4. If you are building from scratch you need to look at this as AT LEAST a part time job (20 hours per week MINIMUM) and be willing to commit to giving it the time it takes to build it and begin to see results. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk. LOL! But seriously if you made it all the way here… I appreciate your time.?

I feel good about this business model and I think a few people will make a lot of money, some more will make enough money to significantly shift their financial realities and the majority of people will buy the course and do nothing with it. LIKE MOST THINGS!

No business is easy. It takes work, dedication, discipline and devotion. It’s easier of you love what you are doing. Personally, I’m passionate about helping people open up additional streams of revenue and I think this is a really incredible way to do that in whichever way you choose to utilize the course.?

I’m officially recommending it to my community. I’m also officially recommending that unless they are highly motivated and already successful online they join my Inferno mentorship container. I plan to be one of the few who make a lot of money with it (combined with my own products and services). I plan on helping a few more make a lot of money. I plan on helping a lot shift their financial reality. And I plan on discouraging those that I don’t think will take action from purchasing the course. From me or anyone else.

If you are intrigued and you want to know more about the mentorship I’m wrapping around the course connect with me and I will have a personal conversation about your goals and give you my best recommendations based on your individual situation.

Very nice, honest article. I've looked into MLM, affiliate marketing and network marketing, but haven't figured anything out yet. Too many places to go to learn that just feel scammy and can't find all the true details. Looks like I have a few more of your articles to read to learn more.

Thank you for sharing a candid view of how on-line business and MRR work together. It's unfortunate that these courses appeal to the sense of urgency that many feel when they are anxious to shift their financial status. This is especially true when it's presented by someone who has had online success and whose progress you've followed. I agree with you with regard to transparency. I've noticed these courses being presented as if anyone can do it (no experiece necessary). But, understanding how to sell products and services online develops over time...through experience, correct? Thank you for your insights!

Great article! I have made so many mistakes. How do I go about it? Will you be able to direct to a website or company that is ethical to start this business?
