Master Performance: From To-do Lists to Tangible Outcomes

Last week, I had a group discussion about one of my favourite topics: mastering performance to improve our work life.

We explored practical ways to master time and make better choices. Today, I want to share with you three simple takeaway learnings from that conversation.

Identify busyness

We've all fallen into the busyness trap at one point or another. The constant flow of emails, meetings, and tasks can make it feel like we're constantly playing catch-up. The first step in this journey is to break free from this cycle.

The first question is simple:

"If you had an extra hour in your day, how would you spend it?"

This exercise isn't about gaining more time but about seizing control of your work-life balance.

Don't underestimate the power of a single hour. Small changes can lead to significant results. Whether it's dedicating an hour each week to a meaningful project or taking an hour for self-care, these intentional hours can lead to a transformation in how you approach your daily tasks.

Mastering Prioritization (AKA You need to know who you want to be to know what you need to do)?

Now that you know what is keeping you busy,? we arrive at the tricky point: prioritization. It's more than managing your to-do list; it's a profound journey towards aligning your actions with your core values.

Start by creating a clear vision of what you want to accomplish.

Who do you want to become, and are you headed in the right direction? ?

This vision will be your guiding star, helping you to determine what truly matters.

Examine what should remain on your to-do list and what needs to go. Begin with taking back control of your schedule, and letting go of tasks that do not align with your goals.

Finding Unstoppable Focus

This is the final piece of the puzzle, and possibly the hardest one. In a world that often glorifies long working hours, it’s becoming difficult to make time for the most important thing: reflection.?

Setting the right boundaries, creating time and space where your creativity can flow freely, and understand your energy cycle to know when your productivity and creativity peak are essential.?

When it's time to focus, hit that 'do not disturb' button on your phone.

Resist the urge to ask “What if someone needs me?”

Distractions are often urgent but rarely important.?

The next time you feel overwhelmed by your to-do list, pause and reflect on what truly matters to you. Embrace small changes, stay aligned with your vision, and encourage your creativity.?

By doing so, you'll not only become more productive but also create a place that brings more joy to your work and life.
