The Master Keys to Elite Academic Performance. How to Turn Your Brain Into a Well-Oiled Academic Performance Machine and Produce Your Best Results.

Many people, probably including you, do not maximise or did not ever their academic performance. They rely or relied on their natural raw potential and believed that the academic performance and results they got were their best possible. This is very unfortunate because over 99% of people who to study even to Doctorate level can or could produce far superior results that they get or got if they were aware that they could dramatically improve their academic performance and results by using strategy. Most performed or perform below their potential because they do not use any strategy or methods to maximise on their potential and get the best possible performance from their brain. In other words;

Actual Academic Performance= Motivation X Potential X Strategy

Your potential is a combination of your IQ and your EQ (Intelligence quotient and Emotional Quotient)

This means that if you have two students who have the same IQ and same EQ and one of the students has a better motivation and better strategy, the one with higher motivation and higher strategy will dramatically outperform the other one.

I talk about elite academic performance with confidence because of three main reasons;

  • This is not to brag but I was a top academic producer and was the best student many times including having many book prizes and two bursaries for being the best student. I also produced a distinction in my Master of Science Degree.
  • I am a certified neurolonguistic programming practitioner and part of what we de do is study and model high achievers and peak performers and use those models to help others elevate their performance and raise their capacity to achieve goals that they might not achieve without the models we help them with.
  • I studied human biology up to university level and also have studied the works of many human performance psychologists including Daniel Goleman’s work on emotional intelligence and others. This means I understand how the brain works and also emotions and cognition and their dynamics in producing the performances and results human beings produce in many different areas of life.
  • I developed my own model for high academic performance using my own case studies, studying other high achievers and peak performers and my expertise in neurolinguistics programming. This model is underpinned by for cornerstones

1.??????Lifestyle Mastery-Your life style during your academic period is the most important strategic determinant of your academic performance and results

2.??????Content Mastery-Your performance with content acquisition, storage, recall and application to your questions in examinations, assignments and projects is key to success

3.??????Question Mastery-Your accuracy in understanding questions and how they must be answered in your tests, examinations, projects and assignments

4.??????Thinking Mastery-How you manage your brain and your thinking capabilities and capacity and how to align your thinking strengths to your choice of questions makes a huge difference. Now remember that your thinking is closely related to your emotions and your physical and physiological states. This goes back to your life style because your life style has an impact on your physical, cognitive, emotional and physiological states.

There are other elements in my system such as

  1. Discipline-Lack of discipline costs you performance and result-swise
  2. Assignments mastery-You must have great strategies for handling your assignments
  3. ?Examination mastery-Many people fail a few days to a few minutes before their examinations because they do things that will cause them to perform poorly in their examinations. Examples include exhausting themselves trying to do last minute studying and going into examinations tried or sleepy because they had been overworking the weeks, days and even hours before each examination session. Another example is lack of mental control that causes many to get into examinations anxious or panicking when they start examinations. A third example is having no clear strategy about how to handle an examination is terms of how to choose the questions to answers and how to manage time in an examination. ?
  4. Dissertation, Thesis or Project Mastery; Producing a great dissertation, thesis or project requires strategy. I had a distinction in my M.Sc. dissertation and this was not just by coincidence but I chose the right topic in line with my strengths and interest. The overwhelming majority of students produce results below their potential because they never think seriously about their unique academic strengths. For example, doing a thesis requires a lot of analysis when your brain is not that good at analysis is a recipe for a thesis which you may even pass but will not take you to the top. Knowing your brain well enough is the most ethical way of cheating in an examination because you then choose questions that you can deal with most effectively using your best brain.

The Importance of Managing Your Brain

In mental and academic performance, your brain is your primary weapon, just as legs are the weapons of a soccer player or runner and the hands are the primary weapon of a boxer. This means that you can only produce your best possible academic performance and results if you manage your brain well. The goal is to turn your brain into a well-oiled academic results machine and a high capacity learning engine. This goal must be part of your lifestyle choices and your life style. You must sharpen your brain and keep it sharp while ensuring that it has enough brain-power to produce the best possible performance and results in all academic activities that contribute to your academic performance and results.
