Master the Art of Summer Mindset With These 4 Tips??

Summer is here and with that comes a slower pace for vacations and family gatherings, flexible schedules with the kids being out of school and an overall higher amount of rest and relaxation for many people.

You might spend more time outside, stay up later to enjoy the longer daylight and ultimately feel a sense of peace that you tend to lose in other seasons.?

It’s no secret that the summer season brings with it a feeling that most of us long for all year, but what if we told you that summer is really just a state of mind?

There is a way for you to feel the sense of peace, rest and contentment that you often find in the summer season ALL year long and it all starts with your daily routine and actions.?

Although that may seem counterintuitive, since summer often involves LESS routine and LESS demanding to-do’s, just think about it…

The reason that you often feel more relaxed in the summer season is because you have more downtime. You’re spending more time with family and friends.

You’re going on vacations and traveling to new places. You’re spending time outside and enjoying the fresh air. You’re more involved with your kids.?

All of these are fairly simple things, yet come August and into the rest of the year, these things tend to disappear and we fall back into our cycles of busyness.?

While your work of course needs to be a priority, learning how to adopt a particular mindset that embodies the carefree, relaxed and enjoyable aspects associated with the summer season can help you reap the benefits of the season for far longer than just a few months!

4 Ways to Have a Summer State of Mind ALL Year Long ??

1?? Schedule Downtime

As mentioned earlier, summer is often associated with vacations, leisure time and a break from strict schedules. This allows for more relaxation, downtime and taking time to unwind.

Downtime can be very hard for business people and high achievers to embrace, but this slower pace really shouldn’t just be something that you experience in the summer – it should be your norm!?

To achieve this, create set working hours that you don’t stray from (unless absolutely necessary) and schedule your downtime.?

Although it might feel silly to schedule time for relaxing, as a high performer, sometimes that’s exactly what you have to do to remind yourself to slow down and find moments of calmness.?

2?? Embrace Nature

Thanks to warm, sunny days and hours of more daylight, summer is typically a season that is heavily spent outdoors. Whether you’re by a pool, on a beach, hiking in the woods or simply enjoying your own backyard, being in nature plays a huge part of how you feel in the summer months.?

Carry this on beyond the season by committing to spending 30 minutes outside daily – whether it’s by reading your current book on the porch swing, walking your dog or going for a family neighborhood stroll, make this a part of your regular routine as much as you can!

3?? Stay Social

Did you know that the average American is 31% more social in the summer than the winter?

During the summer season, we naturally find ourselves around people more which directly contributes to how we feel. As summer ends, you might feel tempted to retreat, but we encourage you to stay social!

Schedule playdates with your kids and their friends, make reservations for a double date night with your spouse and neighbors, join a networking group, get involved with your community and say yes to coffee dates.?

Your heart and mind will be so full when you do!

4?? Seek Adventure

Summer is synonymous with exploration and adventure, whether it's traveling to new places, trying new activities, visiting your favorite beach or simply exploring your own community, having a summer state of mind encourages a spirit of curiosity and a willingness to embrace new experiences.

Our word of advice: don’t just save vacations and travel for the summer!?

Seek adventure (whatever that may look like for you) ALWAYS.

You have one life – don’t just save the fun stuff for 3 months out of the year!

Ultimately, having a summer state of mind is about adopting a mindset that allows you to experience the essence of summer throughout the year so you can experience the calm, relaxed and carefree feeling that’s so easy to lose sight of.?

Here’s to a great summer – and beyond!

I plan to create some memories with the family at the beach this summer. Relaxing underneath an umbrella while the kids play in the sand! ??
