The ACCA Applied Knowledge level introduces essential concepts in business structure, accountancy basics, and the role of accountants in business.

It includes three key papers:

  • Business and Technology: Explore business strategy and the impact of technology on performance.
  • Financial Accounting: Learn to provide financial reports to external stakeholders.
  • Management Accounting: Focus on internal decision-making through data analysis, budgeting, and performance measurement.

Exam Structure:

  • Format: Computer-based, 2-hour exam with a 50% pass mark.
  • Sections:

- Section A: 70 marks (35 two-mark questions)

- Section B: 30 marks (3 sets of ten-mark questions)

Section B highlights budgeting, costing, and performance measurement, including forecasting and spreadsheet use.

Exam Success Tips

  • Time Management:

- Spend 1.2 minutes per question in Section A.

- Spend 15 minutes per question in Section B.

- Move on if stuck; revisit difficult questions later.

  • Attention to Detail:

- Watch for negatively worded questions like "What is the least...?"

  • Focus on Scenarios:

- Avoid assumptions; read each scenario carefully.

  • Answer Strategically:

- Eliminate wrong answers to find the right one.

- Use the process of elimination for tricky questions.

- Be cautious of outlier answers; they might be incorrect.

Effective Study Strategies

  • Set a Date: Schedule your exam early to boost motivation and discipline.
  • Practise Regularly: Use tools that simulate real exam conditions.
  • Comprehensive Coverage: Study the entire syllabus, not just your strengths.
  • Track Progress: Identify and review mistakes to improve.
  • Study Schedule: Plan study days and include breaks to maintain well-being.
