Cascade tripping of Electricity Network is a matter of major concern. As networks become complex, the management of such networks becomes even more complicated.
Restoration protocol is there with the management of the modern utilities. But losses caused due to such massive interruptions are very high.
While we wait for further details and root causes of such massive failure, we have to start looking into alternative innovative solutions.
Just because it has worked in the past is no more sufficient excuse for not investing in appropriate alternative technologies and upgrading of infrastructure.
Transparency in disclosure of details of such massive failure will provide an opportunity for minimising such events in the near future as well as lessons for all involved in the power and energy system.
Such massive failures of electricity networks provide case studies for carrying out further research.
There is an urgent need for joint collaboration among very conservative and secretive industries, academia, regulators, and independent think tanks.
