WHAT TO DO WITH THE ‘HAM’?
There are a LOT of towns ending in ‘HAM’ in Massachusetts.? Having lived in Massachusetts 46 years, I have finally mastered all the subtleties for how to pronounce these towns correctly.? It is often neither obvious nor intuitive how to pronounce these towns.? Here is a local’s assessment of HAMs in Massachusetts.

1 个月This is very helpful for "transplants" like us ??! Some of our experiences in Ireland are transferrable here. I heard all kinds of versions of our lovely town of Waltham, but luckily, never Walt-HAM ??.

1 个月This is great, thanks Jeff! Some of your notes are hilarious! (Well, except Haverhill, since that’s where I grew up… but of course said I was from Bradford (“Bradfid”) on the nice side of the river ??) There are a couple towns I hadn’t even heard of (after almost 49 years here!).
