Ghana’s Covid-19 case numbers have started trending up after weeks of keeping this under control.
Amidst the announcement of tighter restrictions in many parts of the world in response to a second wave, we need to take additional measures to keep ourselves, our families and communities safe.
I remember when the first cases were announced earlier this year we all took action. We religiously washed our hands and wore masks before entering shops, banking halls and offices. We observed physical distancing and only stepped out when it was absolutely necessary.
Those actions, as simple as they were, have contributed significantly to keeping our case numbers down.
Truth is, we are all fatigued by these measures, but this is not the time to let down our guard. Conversely, this is the time to step up the observation of the World Health Organization and the Ministry of Health safety protocols to contain the spread and get our lives back sooner than later.
The good thing, it doesn’t take much. All we need to do is go back to the basics of masking up when we are out of home, maintaining physical distancing as much as we can, washing our hands regularly with soap and water and calling our health care providers or the COVID-19 emergency numbers if we have symptoms. That’s it.
As you step out today, mask up to keep yourself, your family and community safe.
Best of the week to you.
