MASK - AN EVOLVING FASHION ACCESSORY
Covid – 20, has made Mask an essential need wear for protection, may be for some time but may continue for an unknown extended period, post Covid crisis. The government directive is only a preventive measure but people will continue this precautionary initiative till one feels free and confident of moving out without fear. This could be months or a year or two or time will only tell. The usage of mask would increase with more outdoor activities and movements from going to grocery store or may be to office, bank, client or walk and run and so. But everywhere you go, you go with the mask with the sole purpose of protecting oneself or protecting ones loved ones or protecting others loved ones. The functional need is the priority.
However, like Sun glasses and hats which evolved from being a protective functional accessory to a fashion accessory, the mask is also moving forward from a need based article to make it to a fashion statement. From the objective of being functional now it is moving towards being personal and functional. Designers and brands have been working on fabric and embellishments to make it stylish, fashionable and giving it a designer touch. Gucci face cover, Fendi, Palm angels and Marine Serre have all made fashionable masks.
India coming late, masks till now may not be classified under fashion accessory but the fast need and people’s interest has to be appreciated. Mask takes the major and prominent portion of one’s face and this is the part first approachable to anybody, the part which anybody first sees and gets his first impression. It is imperative; this needs to be aesthetically pleasing.
A grim face, a harsh face, a smiling face, a pale face or angry face all expressions get covered by the mask. So it is imperative and important that a mask need to look pleasing, cool and cordial. Different styles, shapes, fits, designs and fabrics, fit differently for different faces. It adds on one, a smart look, so it is essential one picks the right fit mask to look smarter and pleasant. Comfort is another major factor. The type of fabric, material used, number of layers, the size, dimension and shape all contribute to address the comfort level. The awkward and embarrassing feeling of some will be converted into a pleasant one by right selection physically and mentally. Every person has a different level of tolerance and the needs like outside temperature, wearing glasses, nose size, long face, flat face, short face or stout face will all drive to a more personalized selection. The union of functional and fashionable mask has started and time will make the bond stronger. Designers and fashion creators will re-create masks with functional fashionable fabrics, comfort fabrics, motifs and ribbons; add delicate floral, prints, cuts, designs, styles, shapes and innovative creations to boost the masks. Whatever you choose, a design, a fabric, a style or the way you will fasten the mask on face, you will be making a design or fashion statement.
All to make one feel ecstasy, generate confidence, feel comfortable and experience pride on wearing a MASK or rather a “Protective Face Cover”.

4 年Mask - Evolving Fashion , presented nicely. It is a part and parcel of our life to manage daily routine to confident physically & emotionally. The fashion will last for minimum a year . As it is daily routine, people will prefer to use various style preferably accordance to Top of dress code. Some of shirt manufacturers started to offer mask of same design . Business point of view , it has a great potential only to promote the same a technical feature to be kept in mind, multi layered and prevention of bacterial & infection treatment. A combo of N95 & Fashion branding is a suggestion.
