Marymass
Legion Branch Members from Irvine, SAS and Largs joined forces over the weekend with the Irvine Carters Society.
Marymass is a 12 day annual medieval festival and horse fair held in Irvine. Dating back to 1372, the festival now incorporates tradition with modern-day influence. The Marymass Festival is organised by Irvine Carters Society and the small team of dedicated volunteers at the Marymass Festival Committee. To this date, the festival prides itself on boasting one of the largest horse-drawn parades in the world. No motorised vehicles are permitted in the main ‘Marymass Saturday’ parade, creating a unique and incredible spectacle.
SAS Branch Publicity Officer Suzanne Fernando MBE said: "Congratulations to all the organisers involved with a Special thank you to veterans Pete, David, Dutch and John for coming along and supporting us in WW2 uniform. Our group took turns pulling the handmade ambulance as sadly our horses strap snapped so it had to be pulled by hand.
Big thanks to Robert Dunlop from the Irvine Carters, who kept us all hydrated throughout the day, we'd have never made it round otherwise. He truly was the perfect host. Afterwards we were all welcomed into the Irvine bar for a few well deserved chilled ones...CHEERS all and here's to next year."
