Several hundred technology veterans braved rush hour and deluge to recognize industry success stories at The Hotel on the campus of the University of Maryland College Park. Keynote speaker Wallace Loh, President of the University, told how the school's graduates take on the characteristics of it's mascot, the Terrapin, a kind of turtle that can only walk forward and does so by sticking its neck out and taking one step at a time.
Awardees include Brendan Gallagher of the Carroll County Career and Technology Center for STEM educator of the year, Sonatype for technology company of the year, and Paragon Biosciences for life science company of the year. Paragon plans to hire 200 employees in the next several years; current openings may be found here.
The event lived up to its usual reputation as a great opportunity for technology leaders to greet old friends and meet new ones. The evening's buzz and energy reflected the vibrancy of the entire Maryland, DC, and northern Virginia technology industry from government contracting, to software, and of course the life sciences.
