Marvin Blickenstaff at the Crane School of Music!
The Crane School of Music in the Village of Potsdam in Saint Lawrence County at the State University of New York held its 2022 Piano Pedagogy Conference on Saturday September 17th in 2022 with Marvin Blickenstaff as the Guest Clinician. His opening presentation at 9:30 am was entitled "Doing What Comes Naturally: Nature's Clues to Interpretation".
At 10:30 am, the conference continued with a mini-recital of Crane undergraduate students performing the works of women composers. Senior music education major Molly Guarton performed the Spring Intermezzo from Four Seasonal Sketches composed in 1955 by Betty Jackson King. Sophomore music theory major Johanna Saint-Vil performed the Etude in A Minor, Op. 26., No. 3 (ca. 1839-1840) by Louise Farrenc. Senior music business major Emmanuelle Paluch performed a nocturne entitled "Abandon", composed in 1873 by Melanie Chasselon.
At 10:45 am, Dr. Tracy-Lipke Perry, Assistant Professor at the Crane School of Music and Featured Presenter for the Conference, gave a program entitled 'First Ladies' at the Piano: Pedagogical Repertoire in the Age of Women's Suffrage.
At 1:15 pm, Marvin Blickenstaff returned to the stage to give a presentation entitled: "What do you do when the magic stops?" At 2:30 pm Mr. Blickenstaff concluded the conference with a Master Class for Pre-College Students in the North Country Region. Adia Richards, a student of Diana McEntee, performed "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" by Harold Arlen (1905-1986), arranged by Randall Faber. Sophia Xiang, a student of Lorie Gruneisen, gave a performance of "Fur Elise" by Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827). Zane Tatom, a student of Dr. Michelle Martin-Atwood, gave a performance of a Nocturne of Clifford Poole (1916-2003). The conference finished with a performance by Evan Wolfe-Kedar, where he played the Prelude in c minor, BWV 999, by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750).
