Martyrdom
Have you ever worked where you were sacrificing your life to go up the ladder in a job that was not in the direction of your dream?
I remember very vividly my first day in the military the Sgt. Major walked in, we were ordered to “sit at attention.” He told us, “It does not matter where we came from, who your daddy is or how much money was in the family bank account…. “YOU ARE Expendable.”
Expendable is something you never want ingrained in your subconscious.
I was also reminded regularly, “You are a worm/maggot” and “You are not paid to think, just follow orders.”
It was believed I could not make it as a soldier, little on achieve my jump wings. My ego was set to prove people wrong.
I cashed out my femininity to be “one of the boys.” It was my survival-mechanism. I buried many secrets to climb a ladder in a silent martyrdom.
It took 12 years to realize I would not rise to the top. I was told by the BPSO, “YOU are not cut from the right cloth to be one of us.
What if I had redirected that energy and tenacity towards something I was passionate about? I am starting back at the bottom in pursuing my dream and though it seems like a mountain some days, my time and effort is now for the right reason.

5 年You were cut from the right cloth........ An Ex Service person goes in for a job interview. The interviewer asks the Ex British service person why they think they deserved the job as their 22 years experience may not be suitable for the position. The Ex Service person, already sat up straight said this " begging your pardon sir I was more than JUST Military, I was a brother to those that needed a brother, I had seen places only people can dream about and places that people have nightmares about. I was trained to do things that others couldn't, I am physically and mentally strong, I was trained to save those injured around me and to encourage those who struggled next to me, I served my country to protect those who can't protect themselves and I worked hours that would break most people. Sir I was more than just Military...I was a member of the British Military! That sentiment holds true for you and the time you did...... I’d stand shoulder to shoulder with you in a punch up...... or invasion........ or a queue for a beer ............ what you did mattered and was important........ whether you made coffee or killed enemies........ never let anyone tell you otherwise.... You’re not worthless......... you’re a former serviceman.....
