Will Martin

Will Martin

Hoem & Associates highlights one of its longest-tenured and most valuable contributors of the past two decades.

?

Will Martin began his career at Hoem after his soon-to-be father-in-law (former Hoem & Associates owner and Director of Operations, Larry Ryan) encouraged him to come in and meet with his business partners on the sales side of the company in 2006. At the time, Will was the manager of a health club in his home city of Sonoma but in search of a career path that offered greater growth opportunities and Hoem was entertaining the idea of hiring its first sales associate beyond its ownership group. Both parties turned out to be in the right place at the right time.

Entering the industry with no experience in the commercial flooring and construction spaces, Will faced an uphill battle to learn the ropes but was more than up to the task. He quickly landed his first job, a $400 repair job whose story is still told today. The repair was for such a small amount of carpet that when the material arrived in the shop it was thought to be a sample and Will had to jump to ensure it wasn’t misused or misplaced. Of course, his father-in-law (and everyone else around the shop) were happy to give him a hard time about his initial sale being the smallest of all possible jobs.

?Now, 18 years later, Will has tens of millions of dollars’ worth of sales to his name. He has managed some of the largest flooring projects in the Bay Area, specializing in hospitals, technology, and public works. He thrives on solving difficult logistical problems to ensure that both his clients and his end users are happy customers at the end of every project. Will’s ability to put himself in the shoes of his customers is what makes him a favorite of everyone he does business with. It’s no surprise that when asked to give advice to someone attempting to break into the industry, Will keeps it simple “Work hard, be true to yourself and, most importantly, be true to your clients”.

?In his personal life, Will was primarily raised in Wyoming. He started swimming at age 4 but did not begin taking it seriously until he moved to Sonoma at the age of 16. Recognizing that he had legitimate skills in the pool, but also that he was behind the curve in his development, Will decided to take a year off school after graduating high school to focus on his training. In that year, his performance improved enough to earn himself a Division-1 swim scholarship to St. Peter’s University in New Jersey. Will would swim there for 4 years while earning a degree in business. Swimming also led Will to meet his wife, Hannah. The two have been married 17 years and are proud parents to 14-year-old Colter (and yes, Colter is already establishing himself as a force in the pool!). Will and Hannah both currently coach at the local swim club in Sonoma.

Hoem & Associates wouldn’t be the company it is today without the contributions of Will Martin. He is the perfect example of what it means to be a professional.
