Martello Makes it's Mark in the Park...
Saturday morning was an exciting time for myself and Martello Building Consultancy as we attended the grand opening of a new play facility at Radnor Park in Folkestone. The project idea originally came from local resident Susie Illman, who set up a community group to raise funds for play equipment for an under-utilised area of the park.
Susie was successful in obtaining funding from a number of local partners including Shepway District Council, the Roger De Haan Charitable Trust, Folkestone Town Council, Folkestone Parks and Pleasure Ground Charity and East Kent College.
Martello was appointed by Shepway District Council to act as CDM Principal Designer and Project Co-ordinator for the play park following on from our work in 2016 to sympathetically restore Radnor Park Lodge and create the Radnor Park Tea Room which is adjacent to the new play area.
The new park provides zoned areas with play equipment for a variety of age ranges, new pathways, planting & seating and the fully restored Victorian water fountain with a statue of St Eanswythe - the Patron Saint of Folkestone.
The Tea Room and Play Area complement each other perfectly and as a local parent I look forward to enjoying a nice cup of tea and watching the kids enjoy the brilliant new play equipment.
For more information on how the Radnor Park Community Group was set up there is an article in the Community News section of the latest Shepway Today magazine and if you'd like to see some pictures of the new tea room, park and play equipment please take a look at the news section on the Martello Building Consultancy website.
