?? Urgent: New Defibrillator Requirement for Danish Flag Vessels

Denmark has recently implemented new regulations requiring all Danish-flag vessels to carry a CE-marked defibrillator in their medical chests by December 31st 2024.??

Which categories of medical chest are affected???

  • Category A = Ships with permission for worldwide voyages, both those that are carrying dangerous goods more than 24 hours from evacuation and those that aren't??

  • Category B = All ships with permission up to 175 NM from EU/ECC coasts. This includes those carrying dangerous goods.??

Why have the regulations changed? ??

A defibrillator isn't just a tool you put to one side; it's a lifeline. In the chaotic first moments of a cardiac arrest, when seconds feel like hours, a defibrillator will bridge the gap between your crew and professional intervention. Don't gamble with lives. Equip your vessel with a CE-marked defibrillator and ensure you're ready for the worst-case scenario.??

What is the solution???

Martek Marine offer a comprehensive range of CE-marked defibrillators tailored to meet the specific needs of various marine vessels. Our defibrillators are designed to be reliable, easy to use, and comply with the latest Danish regulations, and are on offer throughout August!?

?? Demystifying Gas Detection Part 2: Your Path to Safety

The maritime industry is fraught with unseen dangers, and few are as insidious as the gases that can be present within the confines of your vessel. While regulations and standard operating procedures are essential, in-depth knowledge of these gases is your first line of defence, and an essential tool when selecting effective gas detection equipment.???

Carbon Monoxide (CO): This "silent killer" is odourless, colourless, tasteless and non-irritating. It’s emitted from engines and heaters and can cause headaches, dizziness and shortness of breath.???

Carbon Dioxide (CO2): This non-toxic gas displaces breathable air in confined spaces, leading to suffocation.???

Phosgene (COCl2), Chlorine (Cl2), Ammonia (NH3): These irritant gases settle at the bottom of enclosed spaces and cause an inflammatory response when they dissolve in the moisture of the respiratory tract.????

Propane (C?H?), Butane (C?H??): These flammable vapours are heavier than air and can displace breathable oxygen, leading to asphyxiation.????

Freons (CCI2 F 2): Freons act as an asphyxiant, displacing oxygen in the lungs and hindering oxygen delivery throughout the body. Heavy exposure to this refrigerant can cause heart damage and sudden death.???

Hydrogen Cyanide (HCN): Lighter than air, this gas accumulates at the top of enclosed spaces and interferes with the body’s use of oxygen, potentially harming the brain, heart, blood vessels, lungs, and other vital organs.???

Hydrogen Sulphide (H?S): This highly toxic gas, known for its "rotten egg" smell, can irritate and partially paralyse the olfactory nerves at higher concentrations, making the scent unreliable as a safety indicator. H?S exposure can be fatal.????

Methane (CH?): Methane poses a double threat: It’s highly flammable and can displace oxygen in confined spaces, leading to asphyxiation.??

Don’t let invisible threats become a reality on your vessel. Download your free guide today to explore the crucial role gas detection plays in safeguarding your crew. This guide delves into:??

  • Gases onboard your vessel that you should be looking out for???
