Martek’s Away Day: Getting Away From It All
Every year, we like to close the office and whisk all the hard-working Martek Marine staff for an Away Day team-building event, and this year was no different.?
We split all the UK-based staff into teams and took them into the beautiful Peak District for a day of ‘It’s A Knockout’ style fun games, all while each team was in themed fancy dress. Big congratulations to the winning team, ‘The Bridal Party’, dressed completely in bridesmaid sashes and veils.?
The evening was full of barbecue food, firepits, and singing, with everyone joining in and having a great time. Because which team wouldn’t love that?!?
Assuring Martek’s Health and Safety
When it comes to safety, we don't just think about seafarers; we also think about our team.
A few Martek members have volunteered to get First Aid Trained in recent weeks. We're happy to share that everyone passed with flying colours.?
Congratulations to Hayley, Lucas, Jonny, Tom, Emma, Carl, and Katie for assuring Martek's health and safety.?
We are thrilled to celebrate Katie's fifth work anniversary at Martek!

?? A sustainable approach to water testing
The world is waking up to the problems caused by 8 million tonnes of plastic entering our seas every year, and governments are now legislating against single-use plastic.?
In 2019, the European Parliament announced plans to ban many throwaway plastic items and stated that 90% of all plastic bottles must be collected by 2029. This plan has impacted shipping companies that still rely on plastic water bottles for their clean water supply.?
Single-use plastic on ships has been banned in countries such as India and Kuwait. Other countries are soon hoping to follow India’s and Kuwait’s footsteps in banning single-use plastic aboard their ships.?
We can cut down on single-use plastic and the use of plastic bottles by providing crews and customers with safe drinking water. Having safe drinking water on your vessel will begin to reduce your plastic bottle use as the need for bottled water will be significantly decreased.???
We have written this guide to highlight important steps to take when choosing the best potable water testing kit and to help you make an informed decision and ensuring not only your crew and passengers’ safety but also compliance.?
