I've had mine. Have you had yours?
Below you'll find more real-life practical ideas and insights, plus my five fundamental marketing tips for accountants. Lastly there is a quick anecdote to make you smile: What do different people dislike HMRC?
3 practical tips I shared recently in 1-2-1 sessions
My mentoring clients found these tips helpful in the context of their issues, challenges and problems. I hope you will too.
- MUST DO and DONE: Try this. Each day make a fresh list. Set up 3 columns. The first is for the things you absolutely MUST DO today. The second is for those things to NOT DO today (maybe because you will do them another day). The third column is where build up a daily note of the things you have DONE - whether or not they were on your MUST DO list. You’ll feel better at the end of the day as you’ll have reminder of where the time went and what you achieved.
- Overcoming imposter syndrome: Stop listening to that belittling inner voice as it is exaggerating the most innocuous criticism and concerns in your own head. Other accountants have thanked me for helping them here. Let’s talk it through.
- Learn lessons and adapt: You keep doing the same things and hoping you will get different results. That never works. It is daft to keep repeating efforts that are evidently not getting you what you want. When things aren't going the way you want, we need to consider what lessons you can learn so that you can adapt before trying again. This is what it means to be determined, resourceful and flexible rather than arrogant and foolhardy.
Strategic lead generation
Here's just a couple of the virtual sessions you can book me to present for your office/team or even 1-2-1:
MMMMM – Mastering the 5 Ms – Ideal if your business development activities are a little unfocused and you are struggling to win the new clients and the type of work you really want to be doing.
Lead generation using Linkedin – Basic and advanced opportunities for accountants to use Linkedin effectively to source the leads you really want.
Topical tax commentary on Linkedin
If you are at all active on Linkedin, you can follow The Tax Advice Network business page. You may find the posts insightful and useful. The Linkedin algorithm should also then reflect your interest in the posts you see here on your home page feed.
Latest posts here:
- The G7’s historic tax deal is a step in the right direction but does it address the key underlying issues?
- Does The Sunday Times really think that “accountants” is a catch-all term for anyone who mentions tax when they give advice? Even financial advisers?
- Thanks Times Money. Great story today that could well discourage people seeking specialist tax advice. We are not impressed!
Five fundamental marketing tips for accountants
I was asked recently for my top five marketing tips for accountants and so I had a quick look at the marketing related posts on my blog.
In so doing I realised how much has changed over the years. When I first started mentoring accountants I had to avoid the M-word (Marketing). It didn’t resonate with many accountants – other than those in larger firms with established marketing departments. Now I am often approached for strategic and independent marketing advice!
Anyway, today I have shared my five key marketing tips for accountants in practice. The fifth one is absolutely fundamental and yet so often forgotten or ignored.
