Markets in Motion: Zomato’s Rebranding, Ola’s Losses, and Gold’s Record Rally

Zomato's Big Move: From 'Zomato' to 'Eternal'

Zomato, the food delivery giant, is undergoing a major transformation, rebranding itself as Eternal Ltd. In an official announcement, CEO Deepinder Goyal stated that the board has approved the name change, urging shareholders to support the shift.

Why the Change?

The idea of 'Eternal' emerged internally after Zomato acquired Blinkit. The company used ‘Eternal’ to differentiate itself from the Zomato app. With Blinkit becoming a key driver of growth, the time seemed right to rename Zomato Ltd. to Eternal Ltd.

What’s Next?

  • Zomato’s corporate website will move to eternal.com
  • Stock ticker will change from ZOMATO to ETERNAL
  • Eternal Ltd. will include four major businesses: Zomato, Blinkit, District, and Hyperpure

The CEO’s Perspective

Deepinder Goyal calls this rebranding more than just a name change—it’s a mission statement. He believes “true permanence isn’t built on bold claims of invincibility but through continuous evolution.” This shift marks a new chapter for the company, signaling its expansion beyond food delivery.

Ola Electric’s Q3 Woes: Losses Mount to ?564 Crore

Ola Electric’s financials for the third quarter paint a tough picture. The company's losses have widened to ?564 crore, a significant rise from ?376 crore in the same period last year. Revenue also took a hit, dropping 19% YoY to ?1,045 crore.

What’s Driving the Losses?

  • A one-time exceptional cost due to warranty and service-related expenses.
  • Service backlog and no-questions-asked goodwill compensations.
  • Higher operational costs despite expansion efforts.

Market Share & Expansion

Despite financial setbacks, Ola Electric remains the leader in the electric two-wheeler market with a 25.5% market share in Q3. The company delivered 84,029 vehicles, slightly lower than last year’s 86,775 units.

To counter losses and drive profitability, Ola is focusing on:

  • Gross margin improvements
  • Operating cost optimization
  • Expanding product portfolio

With its in-house 4680 Bharat Cell undergoing testing, Ola Electric aims to strengthen its battery technology and push toward profitability in the coming fiscal year.

Gold’s 6-Week Rally: Should You Invest?

Gold prices have been on fire! In the past six weeks, gold has surged by ?8,350 per 10 gm, reaching a peak of ?85,279 per 10 gm. This rally has been fueled by a mix of economic uncertainty, geopolitical tensions, and interest rate cuts.

Why is Gold Surging?

  • Global Economic Uncertainty: US President Donald Trump’s trade war rhetoric and import tariffs on China, Mexico, and Canada have driven investors toward gold.
  • Geopolitical Tensions: Concerns over US policies in the Middle East have further increased gold’s safe-haven appeal.
  • Central Bank Rate Cuts: Major central banks, including the Bank of England, European Central Bank, and the Reserve Bank of India, have cut interest rates, making gold a more attractive investment.

Should You Buy Gold Now?

Experts suggest that while gold remains bullish, a short-term correction is likely. Key support levels to watch:

  • ?83,800 per 10 gm (initial support)
  • ?83,300 per 10 gm (further decline if breached)

For long-term investors, gold remains a solid asset, but traders should watch out for market corrections before making their next move.
