Marketing Your Book, Part 13: Create Images *for* and *from* Your Book

While you're waiting for your editor, graphic designer, or even printer to deliver your book to you for the next step (whatever that is), there's a cool activity I do for every book I publish I recommend you do as well. I print a copy of the book, grab a highlighter, and read it with a new goal: to identify quotes (such as the one in the image above) or even one liners to use in promotional images.
1. Highlight one-liners that are engaging and would cause someone to want to know more. For You MUST Write a Book, I particularly like using this one: "Have a book to handout and you will stand out!" I even added: To learn more about how you can become an author, read this: [insert link to book]. Those two lines, including the link, are the perfect length for a tweet! In fact, having a series of "tweetables" (also perfect for Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and any other social media platform you can put in regular rotation) are easy ways to put eyes on you and your book.
Take all of your highlights and add them to a word document. This will keep your social media marketing and promotion fresh, pass some of your waiting time in a productive way, and help you continuously get the word out about your book for years to come.
2. Create graphics with your author headshot and/or the book cover plus your one-liner or quotes.
Free apps like Canva or Designfeed make creating graphics easy, fast, and fun.
Replace your social media headshot image with a book launch graphic. Announce your book release with a special graphic, and even provide them to your Advanced Reader Team during book launch week.

Your book's launch phase only lasts about forty-five days—but your book will live forever and therefore needs to be promoted, well, forever. Re-use and recycle tiny pieces of your book to use as promotion, and you'll be sure to see a steady growth in your book sales.
