Marketing Without Ego

Marketing Without Ego

How Confident is Your Marketing?

Many of us have amazing, game changing ideas, products and services that can truly make a difference in the lives of our customers but if we’re not marketing it well, no one will know about it.The main fears I most often see trips us up are:

  • We don’t want to come off as self promotional
  • We don’t want to appear too salesy
  • We worry we won’t be able to stay committed once we get started
  • We are overwhelmed and don’t know where to start

Can you relate?

Whether we want to accept it or not, marketing is a critical piece to how successful we are as business owners and how far we can go in our professional lives.

Below are the 9 methods I recommend to connect meaningfully with your audience, expand your brand and leave the ego behind. Read all the way through to the end for a early invitation to work with me to help you get a jump start on your marketing strategy.

Here we go!

1. Mission; all great marketing is supported by a strong mission statement. Your mission includes your core values, who you are, what you do and why it matters. Know your mission and the purpose that your work serves.

2. Message; your message is the story that underpins all of your marketing efforts. It speaks to the heart (not just the mind) and bridges the gap between what your customer wants and what you provide.

3. Memorable; Your marketing must inspire, empower, educate or entertain. It’s most effectively how you distinguish yourself in the marketplace. People will most remember how you made them feel. Ask yourself ‘what is the action you want people to take?’ ‘how do you want people to feel?’

4. Marketing Channels; choose the platform that best serves your audience and aligns with your natural gifts. If you are a natural talker, presentations or podcasting might be the best platforms for you. If you’re sweetspot is writing than consider blogging or being a guest contributor.

5. Measurable; set measurable marketing goals to indicate your progress. Know the metrics you want to measure whether they are traffic to your site, page views, conversions, etc. The data will point to your performance and any changes you need to make.

6. Milestones; these are the halfway markers that serve as check points along your path. Setting the right milestones will help you see progress. Be sure to set these ahead of time and check them regularly. Otherwise we can lose motivation and get derailed.

7. Masses; know your audience. Go beyond demographic information and understand their needs and how you uniquely solve their problem. Listen to what keeps them up at night so that you know the right solution to offer (even if it’s not your own!)

8. Monsters; the top marketing fears are being too salesy, self promotional and many others. Time to leave those fears behind. There is a difference between boasting and taking ownership of what you have to offer and sharing it widely to those who will be helped by it.

9. Mastery; The road to mastering your marketing game requires commitment and consistency. Create, test, improve, repeat. Have compassion with yourself and don’t be afraid to experiment with different forms of marketing. This is how you become better over time.
