Marketing is a verb - a Lesson from my Love Story.

1996. Second-year in my college as a B.Com student.
A pretty girl attracted my attention. I have never met her before but somehow felt deeply connected with her.
Two days later, with heebie-jeebies, I went to her and told, ‘I love you’. She looked me up and down and asked, ‘who are you?'
Next two months, she never even turned her heads at me.
She was not too keen on my offer. I had sensed it by observing her.
Meanwhile, I have also understood the blunder I made.
For the one next year, I have not bothered her with my, ‘I love you’ rambles but slowly started being a part of her life.
I made her friends, my friends.
Before exams, I have genuinely helped her with reference books.
When she took leaves to tackle her health issues, I sincerely enquired about her well-being.
Final year.. final semester. All exams were over. Instead of parting ways with a 'goodbye', we decided to walk together for the rest of our life.
Yes, she finally accepted my offer which I have made two years ago.
We got married on October 5th, 1998 and living happily ever after.
When I look back, this experience has taught me a valuable lesson on relationships and marketing.
When I expressed my love to a girl, she doubted it because she didn’t even know me (the trust factor), but when I have shown my genuine care and warmth, she understood it.
Love is a verb. Care is a verb. Marketing is also a verb. It's all about action and commitment.
Rather than telling people how good we are and why should they buy from us, let's demonstrate how we genuinely care for them.
Let the marketing be a love affair with the customers. Because, they are also humans with emotions. Right?
