Marketing Updates Of July 2023 That You Should Know About

The month of July 2023 witnessed many innovative and historic marketing activities by brands all over the world. Here is a list of 7 such mega-happenings.

1. Apple’s creative billboard cheered Lionel Messi’s arrival in Miami

With its iconic goat emoji, Apple welcomed Lionel Messi who arrived in Miami to play for Inter Miami in the MLS.

Apple has Major League Soccer’s streaming rights for the next decade, and hence celebrated the arrival of the star player, turning its legendary goat emoji pink.

The billboard located in Miami had a message for its fans ‘(Goat Emoji), now on TV’

2. Barbie’s omnichannel marketing strategy created a huge interest for the movie

After months of ‘Barbie’ being everywhere, the highly anticipated movie released in India on July 21st, and the makers left no stone unturned in getting the movie to the audiences.

From collaborating with several brands like Bumble to Baskin Robbins, to using meme marketing, to brands welcoming the movie’s release on social media handles to even Google turning pink on searching for the movie’s star cast, the makers have done everything one can possibly think of for the movie’s promotions.

3. Bombay Stock Exchange launched a new logo

The BSE’s 149th Foundation Day saw the unveiling of a new logo for the Exchange. This new logo, signifies prosperity, vibrance, growth and new beginnings, besides emphasizing continued trust and enhanced responsibility.

It was launched by S.S. Mundra, Chairman of BSE, in the presence of Board and committee members of BSE and ICCL.

4. WhatsApp installed privacy shades

WhatsApp released an innovative campaign in a bid to convey its commitment to privacy for its users.

Privacy is often compromised, especially when you live in a popular apartment. To tackle this, the messaging service installed OOH shades into iconic homes, that will protect the privacy of the current tenets of the following locations- New Girl Apartment in Los Angeles, Painted Ladies Home in San Francisco and Tom’s Diner from Seinfeld in New York.

5. Historic rebranding by Twitter

Twitter dropped the iconic bird logo and replaced it with the letter ‘X’. The iconic Twitter Blue Bird has been replaced with a white ‘X’ on a black background as a part of the rebranding effort led by Elon Musk.

The term ‘tweets’ will be replaced with ‘posts’, and ‘retweets’ will be renamed ‘reposts’.

6. Microsoft promoted Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem

In a bizarre marketing stunt, Microsoft launched new controllers for its Xbox that smelled like New-York styled pizzas. Four slime-green-colored controllers, shaped like a pizza slice, had a scent diffuser.

This was done to promote the movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.

7. Threads became the fastest-growing app surpassing ChatGPT

Thread became the fastest-growing app in history, with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announcing the milestone of reaching 100 million users in just 5 days since launch.

Previously, the record was held by OpenAI’s generative AI-based chatbot, ChatGPT, which reached 10 million daily users in 40 days.
