Marketing Tip # 45 - How is Your Corporate Health?

Have you noticed that there are more and more articles about research on mental, physical and overall health of a business these days?

What is causing staff complacency? What is behind the feeling of “balance” with your staff? What is the meaning of “balance” in your business?

How do your employees feel about the company they are working for?

Do you care about how your employees feel about your company?

What kind of impression is this reflecting on your business with your customers?

Are your employees happy here?

How can you improve the staff morale in your business?

Well, it seems that this malady is not just with your own business; it seems to be coming from the basics of our psyche…the food we eat, which affects our individual psyche, which affects our families, which affects our jobs, which affects our business.

There never used to be so many coaches offering to help us in so many different ways. Today there are coaches to help us with all aspects of life, business and health.

My question is “Does our corporate health reflect our lifestyles and what we eat?”

As I research the studies of companies today and over the years, I am reminded of a book I read, “The Richest Man in Baylon”.

In this book a man who was a slave was able to make an agreement with his owner to bake extra cakes each day, according to this agreement he entered into with his owner, he would sell all the cakes he baked for his owner first and keep the proceeds separate. Then he would sell the extra ones for himself and pocket that money. –And he did. By incorporating some simple systems, he eventually became the “Richest Man in Babylon”.

Now, he did not do this alone. He had the help and support of his owner. He made a business commitment and stuck to it. He was not rich, in fact he was a slave. What was the psychological pull created between this owner and his slave/employee that would make this “employee” feel empowered to go the extra mile?

This also reminds me of how people lived back then. Their lifestyles were much different from the lifestyles we live today.

Back then people had to make all their food by planting, sowing, reaping, etc...from scratch. The breads and pastries were all made with freshly ground grains and the entire grain was included in the products produced. Plus they were baked fresh every day. There were no GMOs.

Compare this to our breads and pastries of today. They are all made with refined flours. Many of them are GMO based because of the grains used. Instead of natural honey as sweetener, we use refined sugars or artificial sweeteners. Science has now proven these to be very unhealthy for us. Simply stated, they create a spike in our metabolism that results in very low energy dip.

Does what we eat really have much effect on our mental and physical well being?

Many companies are now incorporating physical fitness into the daily routines of their staff because they are realizing that their staff are not moving enough. They spend an inordinate amount of time just sitting at a desk.

Is this healthy? What effect will this have on the employees, their families and their jobs?

Other companies provide unlimited access to vending machines where staff can fill up on coffee, sodas and a variety of carbs. (I call this “Coffee & Calories”.) How is this affecting the overall health of their companies?

Have we come so far off the natural, healthy eating of “yesterday” to what we eat today that we are destroying not only our health, but the health of our businesses as well?

The latest articles I have been reading on health research all state that refined sugar and simple carbs (which turn instantly into sugars when ingested) are the root all diseases and illnesses in the world today. You can pretty much just google “Sugar Research” and you have all the proof you need.

Personally, I released 28.5 pounds almost two years ago now and have maintained that release. I have experienced how much better I feel without refined sugars and carbs in my diet. It has helped relieve the pressure on my arthritic knees and satiated my appetite. Regarding my business, I have more energy and focus and feel more inspired to help my clients than ever before.

How have you been feeling lately?

Not so great?

Maybe, just maybe it is in your food!

Let’s chat; sit down for “coffee” (I don’t drink coffee per se, but figuratively speaking). I would love to get to know you and share some insights into helping you with your business health.

Make it a great day!
