Marketing Strategy - Why Should I Care?

Strategy is the pathway to a goal.

Easy enough to understand, yet I see so many business owners jumping straight to the tactics without employing any strategy. Without a clearly defined strategy to steer the execution, you will waste a lot of time and money.

It all starts with this fundamental question:

How do I attract my ideal clients?

Once we determine this, there are a few factors to consider that can drive one strategic approach vs. another:

  1. Timeframe - How long is my sales cycle? Am I looking for short-term revenue hits or longer-term, sustainable gains?
  2. Access to Market - How difficult is it to reach the decision-makers? Is it expensive to do so? Does my market know they have a problem?
  3. Marketing Investment - What is my marketing budget? Has a marketing foundation already been built?
  4. Competition - How competitive is the market? What is my competitive advantage?

Of course, this just scratches the surface when it comes to developing a solid marketing strategy.
