[Marketing] The Art of Coordination

[Marketing] The Art of Coordination

I’m buzzing with excitement: I’m the maid of honour for my cousin, at her upcoming wedding.

Recently, together with my co-bridesmaid, we pulled off a meticulously planned Paris Hen Weekend for her, complete with a pink limo, champagne, boat trips, and a whirlwind of activities.

Now, we're gearing up for the UK Hen for a larger circle of friends and family. Coordinating travel, accommodation, activities, and everyone’s preferences reminded me just how much goes into pulling off such an event.

This got me thinking: isn’t organising successful Hen celebrations a lot like executing a flawless marketing strategy?

Here’s what organising Hen parties can teach us about sales and marketing:

1. Detailed Planning: Just as we needed a clear plan for each segment of the Hen party (yes, I issued a Guide to each Hen!), effective marketing requires a well-thought-out strategy and plan - because you shouldn't just 'wing it' with Marketing - you need it to contribute to the overall goals, work to a budget and not take all your time. Are you following a plan, or winging it?

2. Understanding Your Audience: For the Hen party, knowing who will attend the different parts helps to tailor activities to suit. Similarly, understanding your target audience in marketing allows you to tailor your messages, your marketing channels and campaigns to meet their specific needs and preferences. Are you using a 'one size fits all' (which will impact your results negatively)?

3. Using the Right Tools: Just like using various apps/organisation methods made organising the Hen parties easier (thank goodness for polls in Whatsapp), using the right marketing tools can simplify marketing MASSIVELLY. Are you using the right tools for the job - and do you even know what those tools are yet?

4. Communication is Key: Constant communication is essential to keep everyone informed and engaged before and during the Hen shenanigans. In marketing, keeping in touch with your customers through regular updates, newsletters, or social media keeps your brand top-of-mind and they know where to come to when they need you. Do you have a planned communications pathway for your customers and prospects?

5. Flexibility: Despite the best-laid plans, we had to be ready to adapt when unexpected changes occurred. (Yes, the other bridesmaid DID leave her suitcase outside my house when we got in the taxi, and didn't realise until we arrived at Heathrow!). Flexibility in marketing is just as important, allowing you to pivot and optimise strategies in response to market feedback, results and new opportunities. Are you crushing under the pressure of poor results or difficult situations, or proactively looking at improvement?

6. We're all in this together!: Organising a memorable Hen party was definitely a team effort. In the same way, successful marketing campaigns often require collaboration across different people within a business, and even external partners. Similarly, your Marketing Channels are 'in it together' - one alone does not do the job. It's using multiple channels cohesively that gets the best results. Are you, and your marketing channels, working too much in isolation?

Handling all these elements effectively requires knowledge, skill, perseverance, and a positive, strong mindset. If coordinating all these moving parts in marketing seems daunting, remember, you don't have to do it alone.

In fact, for those of you that are using LinkedIn, I'm covering all of the above next week in my LinkedIn: Prospects and Profits Masterclass - so you can learn how to get the BEST results in as little as 15 minutes a day.
