In 1993 my project manager and I met with a new prospect.
We had on our gray Wall Street suits and showed picture of the process used across the nation to help their competitors increase transactions by an average of 12x per day.
Tiny us dominated IBM showing up with two people and a repeated story of results versus a platoon of 12 blue suits needed to answer any questions.
It seemed like another slam dunk and then the prospect pulled out a resume of a Junior College candidate and asked if we had any Microsoft Certifications.
We laughed and said we had graduated from the Collins School of Business explaining that only 20% of the industry had any type of degree.
But we lost the sale and all these years later I'm taking my Nth certification test because it a sign of result and not just clever marketing.
