Market Value Filters: The Secret dB Key to Being Found on [In]
Think of [In] like a Warehouse with 824M+ individual Profile files stuffed into rows and rows of Filing Cabinets. Without a Directory, Consistent Labels, Categories, and Cross-referencing Tabs, how would we find anything or even be found? [In] would be an un-sortable mess.?
[In] is a 12B+ Business, and ~60%+ of its revenue generated is from packaging up Members as Products to Sell to other Members, particularly Recruiters (Talent Solutions) and Businesses (Sales Navigator). As my article stated back in 2017, “We are LinkedIn’s Core Product!”?
Now think about this, if you could become the perfect type of Product for ~60% of [In]s business, what would happen to you on this Platform? Higher rankings, found in more search results, promoted to others, and more opportunities are possible.??
Well, [In] does have its Directory, Consistent Labels, Categories, and Cross-referencing Tabs, and you could be that Perfect Product if you are completing your Profile while embracing these Market Value Filters.
So how do we locate and implement these Market Value Filters to our advantage??
Anywhere we see an open fill line in our Profile that produces a ▼dropdown box of choices, once we begin typing, we have located a Market Value Filters; for example, [Location], [City], [Title], [Employment type], [School], [Degree], [Field of Study], [Start Date] & [End Date]
So, let’s get started:?
"STOP Being Filtered Out On LinkedIn! Embrace Market Value Filters and Be Found"
?? [Location] Go to your Profile, click the [Edit intro] ? Pencil right below your [Background photo] on the top right-hand side. Then scroll down to [Location], select [Country], enter [Postal code] and then select ▼the [City] option and select the larger area.?
?? [In] has updated the [Location] dB several times over the last 10 years, and many of the older locations are unsearchable. Take the ‘Bigger Net’ approach and embrace Metroplexes and Greater Areas instead of a single city.?
Ex: Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex (Population 7.7 M) will be used in searches far more times and includes the subset of Dallas, TX (Population 1.4 M).
?? [Industry]?
?? [In] has updated the [Industry] dB several times over the last 10 years, and many of the older selections are unsearchable. I found my previous dB approved [Industry] had changed the & to and, and my profile was in [Industry] limbo. This is a good example of why it is smart to do a full Profile Audit quarterly.
??? [Title] As there are 6500+ Market Value Titles within [In]’s filters, and each is assigned assumed Skills (see Career Explorer or ABC for a deeper dive), you should be able to find one that fits. Think of these Market Value Titles as what every other Company in your industry would call what you do.?
Example:?Many years ago, I helped the head of HR of an internet company optimize this Profile. He couldn’t understand why no one was visiting his Profile or reaching out to him. His Company given Title, the one he used on [In], was Cloud Nine Navigator. We changed it to Chief Human Resource Officer, like almost every other Company would have called him, and he was recruited into his dream opportunity, off [In], within 3 weeks.?
? Always select the Title in the dropdown box to ensure you are within the filters.
?? Gone are the days of packing this Title row with keywords for SEO, as this takes you out of the Title filter process and its assigned skills.?
?? If you are worried about what they might say at your Company or during a background check, you can add to the description, as we did, “Internally known as the Cloud Nine Navigator.”
?? [Employment type] (Full time, Part-time, Self-employed, Freelance, Contract, Internship, Apprentice, Seasonal)?
? These employment type(s) are in order of Ranking Value, meaning Full Time will rank higher in a search result than Part-time, and so on down the line. Leaving it to the default blank is relegating its ranking value lower within the list.
? Employment type(s) are country-specific based on Location in the Top card. Once country-specific Employment type(s) are selected and saved to the Experience, you may change the Top card location, and your choices will remain as chosen. ?? [Company name] always select the ▼option with the Company logo displayed
?? Selecting the gray building box option is the same as choosing unemployed in the [In] dB.?
?? [Location] See?Top Card?definition above.?
?? [School] Always select the ▼option with the School logo displayed; selecting the School with the gray building box option is the same as choosing unknown in the [In]'s dB.
?? Notice in my demo GIF below that my University updated their name in [In]'s dB without notification
?? [Degree]s that appear in the▼options, are the ones that selected School offers/ed and has pre-populated.
?? To get to the the▼options, spell out the Degree and do not start with abbreviations.
?? [Field of Study] works the same as the [Degree]s
?? [Start Date] & [End Date]
?? You’ll need a [Start Date] & [End Date] for inclusion into [My network]'s [People you may know] and any School-related promotions or notifications like Class reunions.?

1 年In LinkedIn Recruiter I can do a search of a candidate based on the years of education. If you don’t fill in the years of education in fear of being age discriminated you’ll end up not showing up in the searches because your information is not complete. If a person or organization has a bias against you because of the year of education, then they were probably not a good match as a client or a dream organization. You don’t want to be in an environment where you are not seen as an asset and valued.

2 年Thanks for this robust newsletter. You don't mess around when you create content. Now I am sufficiently confused Kevin D. Turner. While I had previously chosen Greater Chicago Area (good thing). the last industry selection was professional training & coaching. That is no longer available. The closest I could get to it is professional services, WAY broader. What to do?
