The Market Shift You Haven’t Heard About

You may have noticed headlines recently about big companies doing unpopular things. This might include mandating a return to the office or reducing their workforce, all in the broader context of a cooling economy.
Small business owners could be forgiven for thinking that all that negativity must surely trickle down.
That’s not necessarily the case. According to the Wall Street Journal, the smallest businesses in the US (the ones with fewer than 10 employees) are posting a record share of job openings. Businesses with 1-9 employees accounted for 21% of all job openings in September.
The reality is that every market brings opportunities, and small businesses have a real advantage when it comes to capitalizing on them. They’re adaptable, nimble, and flexible. They have the ability to make changes more quickly, and the positive impact of any change they make is also felt much more quickly.
That’s why I work with my clients in 90-day sprints, with milestone objectives connected to their bigger picture goals, rather than long-term strategic plans. Why give up a key advantage?
So if you’re planning ahead for next year, put all the headlines aside.
The government, the economy, and the weather are all out of your control. Instead, pay careful attention to what’s happening here and now, and what you can realistically achieve over the next 90 days.?
Now, as always, focus on building resilience and taking intentional action to achieve your vision, rather than reacting emotionally to headlines.
Based on what you know first-hand, what’s your biggest opportunity right now, and what action can you take today?
