Market Impact of AWS Launching the UAE Region

This week Amazon Web Services (AWS) Launched their UAE region, their first in the Middle East geography. AWS customers in Middle East can now host their data and apps in a local region, which will be a big relief for these customers. This will unblock a lot of scenarios where customers wanted to keep their data in Middle East due to compliance reasons, and did not have any options on AWS.

As the CEO of CloudThat , I have had numerous discussions where client eventually choose to stick to On-Premises or to 微软 Azure, which launched their UAE region in 2019. Thus this is a game changer for AWS in that geography. As an Advanced Consulting Partner with AWS, we see a lot of momentum for customers now wanting to move from on-premises to AWS after this announcement. We also see a lot of request for customers asking to move from different regions to this new UAE region, now that they have a choice. We see this as a metamorphosis for that geography in terms of their cloud adoption.

CloudThat will invest in having a focused team for this geography, to help customer get the best out of their cloud investments.

The fierce rivalry between AWS and Microsoft has been advantageous for customers. Both companies are trying to cover all the geographies before others. Microsoft has already launched one more region in Qatar, and announced a region in Israel to be launched soon. thus AWS is catching up in that regard. Although, AWS enjoys a hefty lead in market share in cloud consumption. Thus, it is super exciting for customers who get better prices, services and more geographies.
