Report: Maritime Skills Commission Annual Report

On 10 October 2022, the Maritime Skills Commission released its third annual report to share progress on workstreams and objectives including the Future Ports Workforce, Cadet Training and Modernisation, Green Skills, Exporting Maritime Education and Training and more.?

Call for Tenders: Unnecessary Barriers to Employing UK Ratings

In March 2022, the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) presented evidence to the MSC on ‘Barriers to Progressing British Ratings’.

Following the evidence session, the Maritime Minister tasked the Commission to conduct a review to 'understand what the situation is with UK ratings training'. The task required the MSC to understand 'what are the barriers and opportunities to training and where are the potential growth areas for UK ratings' and provide a series of recommendations for next steps. It was also requested that the Review consider ratings to officer training.

The tender is now live and can be found below. Tenders must be received by 27 November 2022.

News: Skills for Green Jobs

During Green Careers Week, the Maritime Skills Commission launched a new green skills project to help ensure that the maritime industries have the skills required to enable its decarbonisation.

The project kick starts with the appointment of Kit Williams to coordinate delivery of recommendations from the Maritime Skills Commission's (MSC) Skills for Green Jobs Position Paper. It is being delivered through a partnership between the MSC and Cornwall Marine Network (CMN).
