Marion Serenge Takes Home LG/SJAK Sports Personality of the Month Award!

I'm thrilled to share that Marion Serenge, a rising star in Kenyan football, has been named the LG/SJAK Sports Personality of the Month for June 2024!

This recognition celebrates her phenomenal performance during the FIFA U17 Women's World Cup qualifiers, where her efforts were instrumental in propelling the Junior Starlets to a historic achievement – becoming the first Kenyan national football team to qualify for a World Cup! ??enya

Serenge's talent shone brightly during the qualifiers, particularly in the crucial two-leg match against Burundi. Here's a quick recap of her contributions:

  • First Leg (Abebe Bikila Stadium, Ethiopia - June 9, 2024): Kenya secured a dominant 3-0 victory. Serenge found the net in the 43rd minute, contributing to a comfortable lead. ??
  • Second Leg (Ulinzi Sports Complex - June 16): Kenya continued their dominance. Serenge opened the scoring in the 17th minute, paving the way for a 2-0 win and a resounding 5-0 aggregate victory that booked their World Cup ticket! ?

During the award ceremony held on July 16th, LG East Africa's Managing Director, Dongwon Lee, expressed his confidence in Serenge. He believes this recognition will further motivate her to continue making history for Team Kenya on the global stage.

Serenge, a student at Archbishop Njenga Girls High School, faced stiff competition from other talented athletes, including:

  • Velma Abwire & Elizabeth Ochoka (Junior Starlets teammates)
  • Vincent Onyala (National Rugby Sevens Captain)
  • Emmanuel Wanyonyi & Emmanuel Too (Athletics)
  • Dennis Esokon & Juliana Namutira (Volleyball)

The full list of nominees included:
