MARIO Resources - February 2025

Message from Graeme Scott - Executive Chairperson of MARIO Education

?

I recently attended the inaugural, 'No School Is An Island' conference, held in?Bermuda.? This was my first time in Bermuda and I hope, not the last.? Yes, it's a stunning island archipelago, with pristine, pink beaches and the most incredible turquoise sea.? It's also one of the most expensive places I've ever?visited - I think most of my pension just went on dinner!? ?However, my lasting memory will be the amazing people.??

The conference was the most joyful of events (in a time when we really need some joy), so low-ego and collaborative. It was a small and intimate conference with incredible conversations about wellbeing, learning, communication and of course AI.? Heartfelt thanks to the amazing people there, led by the human dynamo that is Angela Fubler.? What a memorable few days!

Professional development opportunities have?never been more important, not just the formal keynotes and workshops, but also the accidental conversations -? 'creative collisions' as David Kelley from Stanford d. School calls them.? It reminded me that although MARIO for Me could be classed as an ed tech platform, we are really all about social connections.? MARIO enables teachers to have really powerful one-to-one learning conversations with?students.? In the age of technology, we must prioritize meaningful human connectivity.??

In a six-year, retrospective study, published in 2022, the MARIO approach (strategic 1:1 learning conversations with students) resulted in an effect size of 0.91 (Cohen's d).? That was without the data that our platform now generates, making those conversations much more focused and impactful.? Now that we have our entire ecosystem of digital check-ins, scaffolding to support these conversations, personalized learning plans for all students, and surveys to augment the framework, we can only suggest that the real impact will be even more significant.??

Now, around 40 schools are benefiting from these meaningful connections, leading to greater student-teacher trust, more student voice and agency, improved academic achievement, and a more positive school culture.? If your school is not using the platform and the MARIO approach, why not get in touch?
