Marilyn’s Story
Laurence Colletti
Executive Producer at Legal Talk Network. ??LaurenceColletti.com
In 1992, Marilyn Mulero was arrested for a Chicago gang murder she did not commit. Young, naive, and wanting to be alive for her children, she was frightened into signing a false statement when investigators threatened her with execution. Her attorney failed to properly investigate the case and later advised Marilyn to make a risky blind plea to the court. That deal turned deadly when the court sentenced her the death penalty.
It would take 28 years and help from the Illinois Innocence Project , California Innocence Project, and Exoneration Project but eventually Marilyn would win her freedom through a clemency petition from Governor JB Pritzker . This is her story.
