Marietta Business Spotlight: Pie Bar Marietta
Calling all pie lovers! There’s a new baker in town! For this month’s spotlight, we are showcasing Pie Bar Marietta, a bakery that offers sweet and savory, hand-crafted pies and other pie-related goodies. Lauren Bolden, owner of Pie Bar, shared how she and her husband, Cody, baked their way to success and eventually found their way to Marietta.
The Beginning
In 2012, Lauren and Cody graduated from college and immediately transitioned into “normal” jobs. While working at the Georgia State Capitol, Lauren quickly discovered two things: 1) she loved working with Georgia’s farmers, and 2) her hobby of baking pies was making her the MVP of all the office parties. With this realization, the Boldens decided to turn Lauren’s passion for baking into a business. While still working their day jobs, they began selling Lauren’s pies, made with locally sourced ingredients, at local farmers markets, including the Marietta Square Farmers Market, and at other businesses.
The Middle
After several years of popularity, the Boldens decided to go all in. In 2015, the 25-year old couple began looking for their first brick and mortar space. They soon found their first home in Woodstock, GA and opened shop within thirty days of signing their lease! Gaining even more popularity from this move, the Boldens opened Pie Bar Commissary in 2017 in Kennesaw, GA, where they now have more room for their bakers to do what they do best, bake! Once they opened this space, they then launched their Pie Provisions line, a wholesale and retail line of pie-related goods as well as began offering pie baking classes. What was once a part-time gig was rising into a pastry empire.
The Present
In 2019, Lauren and Cody began looking outward once again and decided it was time to open a second Pie Bar location. Throughout the years, Lauren and Cody had formed strong ties with the Marietta community through the Marietta Square Farmers Market and partnering with local businesses, like Cool Beans Coffee Roasters, another Marietta Square staple. So, when it was time to expand and an opportunity arose on the Marietta Square, they knew it was the right choice. After months of work, Pie Bar Marietta opened for business this month and are ready to bring their sweet treats to you!
“Cozy Space, Tasty Pies”
According to Lauren, one of Pie Bar’s core values is community. Because of this principle, they continue to be intentional as they expand, by choosing places and creating spaces that exemplify that value. She also made sure to mention that as they expand their offerings and footprint, they fully intend to continue growing with their local farmers.
Like so many others, Pie Bar is making adjustments due to COVID-19. Lauren said their plan is to “meet guests where they are.” With that sentiment in mind, they offer delicious pies by the whole and the slice and via delivery, curbside, or even by reserving a slice. So, if you like pie (which really, who doesn’t?), you can grab a slice on the Marietta Square at 60 Powder Springs Street!
