Regulatory Update
1. The end of the PSA clearing exemption - the Clearing Advantage?
2. PRA’s review of the use of the SIMM Model
领英推荐
The PRA has just issued a letter (28/06/22) challenging the adequacy of margining frameworks which includes the SIMM model for Uncleared Margin Rules. It is their view that "the existing governance process, in which firms rely primarily on the International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA) for updating SIMM or negotiating add-ons for model underperformance, may result, for some counterparties, in margin levels not adequate to cover for risks at the 99% confidence level as required by regulations".
They go on to talk about Phase 6 and the expectation that there may be material differences in the risk profiles of these clients that are not captured in SIMM.
The expected actions for Cat 1 banks are listed and they have until Dec 2022 to respond to their supervisors.
?3. 29th?Annual ISLA Securities Finance & Collateral Management Conference
The 29th?Annual ISLA Securities Finance & Collateral Management Conference returned for the first time as an in-person event since the pandemic from?6th to 8th June. The event was very well attended with over 500 registered delegates from across the industry.
?A number of excellent sessions were held with industry leaders sharing their views on a range of topics. The political and regulatory landscape was discussed as the post-Brexit and the pandemic global economy turned to face conflict in Ukraine and rising inflation.
?Digitalisation and standardisation were key themes. The introduction of DLT into areas of the industry showed a sliding scale between innovation and legacy processes with work on the common domain model (CDM) attempting to bring efficiencies to the market as a whole.
?A wide range of technology solutions were on display reaffirming our approach of being a consultancy that matches the right solutions for our clients.
