The 22-23 season is approaching its last stretch. Now is a good time to look at the MVP leaderboard for the first time this season.
Qualifier: domestic players that play at least 27 games, voted by basketball media and fans.
1. Joseph Lin (Joe) 12.48 PPG 3.52 RPG 5.4 APG
No longer an underrated player, Joe Lin is a full blown star. Traditional stats don't do Lin justice, as he is currently leaders in both plus minus and clutch points. Numbers aside, perhaps Lin's strongest case lies in his ability to help his team win games. After helping the Taipei Fubon Braves win back to back championships, Lin is replicating similar results with a bigger role on the New Taipei Kings. In his own way, Lin is proving doubters why he is most valuable.
2. Chun-Hsian Lu (Justin) 17.62 PPG 4.62 RPG 3.04 APG
Justin Lu is currently averaging career highs in points, rebounds, assists, and steals. Coming off a Sixth Man of The Year campaign in the 2021-22 season, Lu is now the de facto first scoring option on the team. More importantly, the Taoyuan Pauian Pilots have been flirting with the top two seed all season long, and the success has by and large coincided with Lu's elevated role. Asmall dip in production lately has Lu dropped in the ladder, but he's still very much in contention.
3. Chin-Min Yang (Amigo) 15.2 PPG 3.48 RPG 35.33 3P%
The reigning MVP still has plenty in the tank. On paper, the dip in production theoretically puts Amigo Yang further away from the MVP conversation, but Yang's efficiency screams productivity once you dive in deeper. Yang is playing about 6 minutes less and taking around 5 less shots, while shooting a career high percentage from deep. Meanwhile, the he's still delivering in the clutch and the Kings' 21-6 record doesn't hurt either.
4. Hsiang-Chun Tseng (Jack) 12.13 PPG 5.83 RPG 1.25 BPG
After an injury riddled 2021-22 season, Jack Tseng has developed into the reliable stretch big Coach Roger always envisioned. With some moves made in the offseason, the Braves opened up major rotation minutes for Tseng, and he seized it with career highs all across the board. Tseng's uptick in production has come with Brave's mid season surge. Despite being out now with a hand injury, Tseng can still make a late push in the MVP conversation.
5. Chun-Chi Lin (AG) 15.46 PPG 4.11 RPG 40.37 3P%
The Formosa Taishin Dreamers has had an up and down season. However, with coaching personnel changes and import rotations being shuffled around, AG Lin has been the constant presence that the team desperately needed. Currently ranked number 2 in all local scoring, Lin has upped his scoring and efficiency year after year while shouldering a heavier load on offense. Mainly deployed as a sixth man last season, Lin has become the primary scoring option on a Dreamers team that's pushing for playoffs seeding. Lin's case will be even stronger if the team cracks the top two in standing.
