March round up

Welcome to the March edition of The Junction Box, featuring all the latest from Stone Junction. In addition to our regular newsletters, we’ll be offering a round up of industry insight and a catch up on all things SJ every month. So, as we wrap up Q1, what’s been going on?

Google announced its latest core update last month, with a focus on improving search quality and tackling content it deems too spammy. Some key points to know include:

? Better quality ranking: Google's tweaking its core ranking systems to spotlight the best and most original content out there. This means the not-so-great stuff will have a harder time hogging the search limelight.

?? Fresh spam policies: Google's also giving its spam policies a makeover to tackle new tricks spammers are pulling. Think scaled content abuse, site reputation shenanigans and dodgy strategies related to expired domain. Keyword stuffing, sneaky redirects, link spam and overuse of internal links could all put your site at risk of ranking lower than it should!

?? Manual checks: To ensure websites are following Google’s guidance, it will be carrying out manual checks on a small number of websites. If affected, site owners will receive a notification through Search Console that their page has been deindexed — so best to ensure everything’s in check.

We welcomed a couple of new faces in March. Lydia Richards joins the team as an account executive. With a background in journalism, Lydia has spent time working in the recruitment industry, focusing on lead generation.

Former editor of Med-Tech Innovation magazine, Ian Bolland has joined as an account manager. Ian spent six years in various editing roles at Med-Tech Innovation, and as editor-in-chief since 2020. He also oversaw Medical Plastics News magazine, as the conference program for Med-Tech Innovation Expo.

…And we’ve changed our face too! In February, we rebranded with a new look, new logo and new website. If you haven’t checked it out already, why not browse our freshened up case studies?

We’ve pulled off some cracking campaigns this quarter, with coverage going local, trade, national and international.

Following a BBC Click feature in December, greentech trailblazer Katrick Technologies has continued to see a barrage of media coverage, including features on Interesting Engineering, French magazine Science Post and El Espanol. Katrick was even invited to Downing Street for a reception with Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden, to honour influential figures in Scottish industry.

Exel Composites spoke out about resurgent electricity demand in the US over on Financial Times, while fuel expert White Horse Energy offered its log burner tips over on Ideal Home.

The team showcased our new brand at the National Manufacturing Summit at the MTC in March, while Georgia Cotterill and Emma Walker stopped by Channel Live to join MS3 Networks. We’ll be dropping by MACH in April — we hope to see some of you there!

Georgia said hello to the MS3 team at Channel Live, while Alison and Leah showcased our new brand at the National Manufacturing Summit.

And that concludes Q1! Got a question about Google? Or looking for your own stream of top media coverage? Reach out via our website to get the conversation started.?
