March is Ovarian Cancer Month

Every year, 295,000 women around the world are diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Of these, only half are likely to see more than five more birthdays. This is a serious, heart-breaking problem – and fixing it is going to take a whole lot of love and support.

With around 7,500 women diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year, ovarian cancer is the 6th most common cancer in women in the UK. At present, the survival statistics are:

·??????Stage 1 Almost 95 out of 100 women (almost 95%) will survive their cancer for 5 years or more after they are diagnosed.

·??????Stage 2 Almost 70 out of 100 women (almost 70%) will survive their cancer for 5 years or more after being diagnosed.

·??????Stage 3 More than 25 out of 100 women (more than 25%) will survive their cancer for 5 years or more after they are diagnosed.

·??????Stage 4 Almost 15 out of 100 women (almost 15%) will survive their cancer for 5 years or more after they are diagnosed.

As with most cancers, survival for ovarian cancer is improving. Here in the UK, ovarian cancer survival has almost doubled in the past 40 years – and we’re only just getting started. How can you help?
