March News - Lots to Celebrate this month
During this Women’s History Month, we are reflecting on the advancement of women in lighting by celebrating some of the rockstars that make up our community. To kick things off, we’re sharing eight (8) short interviews with WILD women from around the country that we think you should know better. They are business owners, artistic entrepreneurs, diversity champions, working mothers, and environmental activists. We hope you are inspired by their stories as much as we are!
Of course, it was hard to pick from so many amazing women in the industry! We know the power of sharing each other’s stories: they can provide a spark of encouragement, create a new connection, and become the stepping stone for progress. So, if you’re sharing some amazing news or celebrating a friend's accomplishments - tag us so we can celebrate too! We want to spread the word about how incredible all the members of our WILD community are.

International Women’s Day (IWD) is commemorated globally on March 8th to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality. IWD has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. IWD is not country, group or organization specific.
Every year, IWD selects a theme to bring focus to the day, and this year’s theme is to Embrace Equity. Equity isn’t just a nice-to-have, it’s a must-have. Equity means creating an inclusive world and we can all play a part. Collective activism is what drives change – from grassroots action comes wide-scale momentum. When we embrace equity, we embrace diversity, and we embrace inclusion. Equality is the goal, and equity is the means to get there. Join us as we #EmbraceEquity this International Women’s Day – and always!
chapter news
WILD is excited to have a chapter in the DC, MD & N. Va area! Chapter leaders Anne-Marie Beckham, Sara Richter and Jessica Krometis were interviewed by Randy Reid from the NLB. They discussed the motivation to start a local chapter, challenges woman face in the lighting industry, what sets WILD apart from other organizations and more – a live Q&A session will be available after the video as well.
Thursday, March 2nd 12PM EST. No registration, Zoom link here. Passcode: 071130.
It’s time to take a step back and evaluate how the lighting industry is supporting and retaining the valuable talent of working parents. Please fill out this anonymous survey, share with others in the lighting industry, and come to our presentation at LightFair in NYC to see the results.
Last month WILD NYC shared resources, provided by Aylin Aydin, to support the survivors of the recent devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. Please review the updated list and consider providing any assistance you can.
