How is 2025 going so far for you? By the time this month wraps up, we’ll be a quarter of the way through 2025 approaching the halfway point for this decade.
For me, January was long and arduous. And February flew by. So now, I’m using March as a reset button.
This month provides a great opportunity to pause, take stock on how the year is going so far, and ask yourself some important questions.
Not just about what needs to happen this month, but what needs to happen for where you’re headed.
This month, I’m focusing on three key questions that connect my present to the future.
They’re helping me realign my energy and make sure that what I do today supports where I want to be five years from now.
These are the questions. Maybe they’ll help you too.
1. What’s Energizing You Right Now?
When you look at how you’re spending your time, what’s lighting you up? What’s making you feel more engaged, focused, or even a little bit excited?
For me, it’s inviting people on our Fire Memos invitation list to experience the platform for the first time. Seeing people track their progress, recognize their growth, and uses those insights to do even bigger things is everything I hoped Fire Memos would do.
And it’s energizing because it aligns with my bigger vision.
Sometimes, we get caught up in doing what we think we should be doing, but real momentum comes from leaning into what actually fuels us.
To dig deeper, try this:
?? Look at your calendar. What’s the task or meeting you’re genuinely looking forward to? That’s a clue to what energizes you.
?? Notice when you feel "in flow." Pay attention to the moments when time flies. What were you doing? How can you do more of it??
2. What’s Your North Star for the Next Five Years?
It dawned on me recently that we’re halfway through this decade. The rollercoaster from before COVID to now feels like 10 years in itself. But here we are, we’re halfway there.
So, stop for a moment and imagine this. If things have gone the way you wanted, what does your career, and your life, look like in March 2030??
It’s hard for me to be clear on the details, but my North Star is clear. I'm creating a platform that shifts how people think about their work and accelerates their achievements.
That vision influences how I make decisions today.
It helps me focus on what really matters, not just what’s urgent. It guides me on what to say yes to, and what to say no to.
To dig deeper, try this:
?? Write your North Star in one sentence. If you had to explain what you’re working towards simply, what would you say?
?? Reverse-engineer your success. Break down what steps you need to take, starting now, to make that vision a reality.?
3. Are Your Daily Habits Aligned with Your Future Self?
Dreams may not manifest overnight. If you know what you want, you will move closer towards it through consistent and aligned actions, one day at a time.
For me, the habit that moves me closer to my North Star is connecting with as many people as possible. I do that through LinkedIn, my writing, and daily conversations.
I write and share something every single day without fail.
Not because I have to, but because it’s part of how I build relationships, plant seeds and create opportunities.
What small habit, if done consistently, would make your five-year goal inevitable?
To dig deeper, try this:
?? Identify a habit worth refining. What’s the one thing you could do daily that would make your goal feel effortless?
?? Eliminate roadblocks: What would stop you from doing this? And, if that happens, how can you get back on track?
Fine Tune Your Momentum in March
March is a reminder that time moves quickly. But we don’t have to wait for some perfect moment to start making progress. The choices we make this month, the things we say yes to, the habits we strengthen, and the North Star vision we hold, shape the near future we’re building.
So, let’s recap:
As for me? My focus this month is on two things - I’m hosting the final session for my Promotion Skills for Emerging Leaders course and rolling out the Best Year Yet campaign for Fire Memos.
As for my habits, I’m going to keep writing, keep making connections, and keep developing and sharing tools to help people do their best work.
What’s your focus for March?
