March 14th Meeting - The Memphis IMC Club
The objective of The Memphis IMC Club is to help each of us become a safer and more competent instrument pilot.
The focus of the Tuesday, March 14th, 7 PM CDT meeting via Zoom will be lost communications. Here’s the flight plan:
Exercise – Dead Radios Over Montana?– We will explore three different flights with radio failures in IMC. The proverbial question? If you were PIC, what route and altitude would you fly?
Scenario – NORDO Over the OROCA?– You are dodging moderate rain and trying to stay out of clouds and turbulence on a 4+ hour flight from Morristown NJ to Columbia SC. You are in a Cessna Cardinal RG. Radio reception has been spotty the entire flight. As you approach the Tar River VOR (TYI), controller advises that he may lose you on radar but will pick you back up SW of the VOR. 20 minutes pass and your radio has been silent. You try calling ATC, raising other aircraft, transmitting on guard, and even tuning in a nearby VOR. Your reward is nothing but static. You’re at 2,700’ and realize the OROCA for the current quadrant is 3,200’. In just a few minutes, you’ll cross into a quadrant with 3,500’ OROCA. You are in IMC. What do you do?
Suggestion - bring your EFB to the meeting.
Meeting will start promptly at 7 PM CDT and last about 90-min.
There is?NOT?a membership requirement. Just an interest in becoming a safer, more competent instrument pilot. And there are?NO DUES! Just go to?www.memimc.club?to request Zoom login info.
Look forward to seeing at the Tuesday, March 14th, 7 PM CDT, meeting of The Memphis IMC Club!
