Welcome to a month of Freedom, revolution, innovation, and independence. As for any Ghanaian, the month of March is so significant and can not be overlooked by Africans as well. A month to reflect on the sacrifices and struggles of those who fought for independence and honor their legacy. Africa will be Great.
Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the first President of Ghana, was a leading Pan-Africanist and a champion of African unity and freedom.
"Africa Must Unite" (1963), On May 24, 1963, at the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), which aimed to promote unity and solidarity among African nations. Nkrumah, in his speech, stated: "Divided we are weak; united, Africa could become one of the greatest forces for good in the world...It is clear that we must find an African solution to our problems, and that this can only be found in African unity.
"I Speak of Freedom" Speech (1961). This speech was delivered on the occasion of Ghana's independence from British colonial rule on March 6, 1961. In his speech, Nkrumah emphasized the importance of freedom and unity: "We face neither East nor West; we face forward, toward the future. We are happy to be a part of the new world of struggling, dreaming, creating, people, and we pledge ourselves to work with our brothers and sisters throughout the world to build it up. With all our strength and with all our heart, we will labor unceasingly to make Africa the home of a new life and of freedom."

"African Unity" Speech (1959). This speech was delivered at the All-African People's Conference in Accra, Ghana, in 1959. In his speech, Nkrumah called for unity among African nations and emphasized the need to resist imperialism and colonialism: "We must unite now or perish...We must recognize that our economic independence resides in our African union and requires the same concentration upon political achievement.
