March Edition

Thanks to your support, nature has been given a voice.

An incredible 523 of you had your say in the Strategic and Local Plan (SLP) consultation, speaking up for nature when it needed you.

As a result of our campaign, Cheltenham Borough Council have now declared a nature emergency. It’s great to see such swift action for nature, and this really shows how together, our voices can make a difference at such a crucial time for our environment?.

Within the SLP area, only Gloucester City Council are left to make this declaration, and we will continue to push for this after the upcoming local elections, so keep an eye out for any further updates.

Thank you again for your support, your input truly makes a difference.?

Pond at St Mary de Crypt's Churchyard

We built a small pond (raised container pond surrounded by a rockery) at St Mary de Crypt's Churchyard, Gloucester, with our volunteers as part of Nextdoor Nature, which is creating nature-filled spaces on people's doorsteps! ???? This pond will provide vital habitat for species to thrive in urban areas! ?????? The pond was made possible thanks to a donation from?Gloucester City Council???

“It was lovely to see the Churchyard transformed today with the newly created pond.? The pond will help improve the area for wildlife in a part of the City which has little greenspace.? The pond provides an important water source for birds and other animals to drink, as well as an important habitat for frogs, toads and other amphibians.?Dragonflies and damsel flies will hopefully soon be using the pond.? Thank you to everyone that made this project possible” - Frances Halstead, Nextdoor Nature Officer for Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust, oversaw the project.

Nextdoor Nature is a national project overseen by the The Wildlife Trusts and funded by the The National Lottery Heritage Fund , and aims to leave a lasting legacy to commemorate The Queens Platinum Jubilee.

Can you help bring back our butterflies?

For as long as the large blue’s home remains so small, their future remains fragile.

Would you like to see vibrant grasslands teeming with life and the delicate flutter of butterflies on the sunlit wing? Restored habitats shifting and changing with the rhythm of the seasons? Thriving populations of once rare birds, insects and mysterious mammals? This is the future we want for our wildlife, and we need your help.

People’s Nature Reserve

DID YOU KNOW - our back gardens make up more space than all UK nature reserves put together?!

Whether it be a wild garden, patch of uncut grass, or a hanging basket full of flowers; you can become part of the People’s Nature Reserve today and help create space for wildlife across our county.

Nature needs connectivity and corridors to move between green spaces – our nature reserves are often too small or isolated for the long-term protection of species. Gloucestershire’s spaces for nature need to be bigger, better and more joined up; this is where you come in!

Pledge your patch for nature, add your pin to our map, and watch the People’s Nature Reserve grow. Whilst your patch may be small, together they connect the patchwork of green spaces across Gloucestershire and form essential wildlife corridors.

Find our more and become part of the People’s Nature Reserve today!
