关于我们

Power California harnesses the energy of young voters of color and their families to create a state that is equitable, inclusive and just for everyone who calls California home. We are a statewide multi-racial civic engagement organization leading electoral movement building work with on-the-ground community partners in urban, suburban and rural communities throughout the state. We began our work in 2004 as Mobilize the Immigrant Vote (MIV), launching the first ever multi-ethnic, immigrant-based coalition to build the electoral campaign capacity of community-based organizations in California. In 2016, MIV partnered with Movement Strategy Center to co-lead YVote, an electoral movement building project aimed at building a community-based network to transform young Californians of color into a powerful new voting bloc. This year, YVote came aboard MIV, and our organization transformed into Power California. Power California is a nonpartisan 501(c)3 charitable organization with an affiliated 501(c)4 social welfare organization. Working together across several California offices, we foster a collaborative working environment that values high-quality work.

In these challenging times, young Californians are hustling & grinding with resilience and determination. Saa'un P. Bell, our Senior Associate Director, explains, “Power California polled 1,557 young adults, ages 18-30, recently and found that two-thirds are renters, 18% live at home with parents or relatives, and 28% have considered leaving the state.” Young Californians are grinding and overcoming – juggling multiple jobs, side hustles, education, and mental health – while caring for our loved ones as the cost of living increases. When we unite as a new generation of workers, voters, and dreamers, we become a powerful force capable of challenging greedy corporations and transforming our communities. We want to congratulate Jung Hee Choi, former Deputy Director and current Sr. Advisor of Power California on her new position as the Managing Director, Power Infrastructure at The California Endowment. As a founding staff member of Power California, Jung Hee played an instrumental role in our evolution from a pilot project to statewide civic engagement powerhouse focused on young voters of color. For several years, she guided the development of comprehensive powerbuilding and narrative strategies aimed at enhancing the civic participation of Gen Z voters while cultivating the next generation of leaders internally. In addition, Jung Hee has been at the leading edge of multiracial organizing, policy advocacy and narrative change for over two decades. She is a recognized movement-based storyteller and strategist, known for designing impactful strategies that secure the support of millions of voters, influence decision-makers and reshape public opinion. Congratulations Jung Hee! We are so happy for you! Read Jung Hee's Announcement: https://lnkd.in/g-UDrEQD

We are excited to release our collaborative report with the #MillionVotersProject: “Narrative Power: Accelerating Narrative Change from the Ground Up” This first-of-its-kind field study, led by our own Jung Hee Choi, surveys the narrative infrastructure of 58 community-based powerbuilding organizations and convenes focus groups from over 30 local, statewide, and national narrative change experts. California has reached a critical juncture in the battle of ideas, and our opposition aims to roll-back our progress. The recommendations provided in this report characterize how powerbuilders can meet the current moment, and chart the future. BIPOC-led and serving organizations at the forefront of progressive change organize every day to safeguard our democracy and deliver wins for working people and people of color. Each story told at the doors and every carefully crafted message online, asserts our narrative for a fair California for all. Full Report: https://lnkd.in/gRJGxeZz
