Women’s History Month
March isn't just about flowers and sunshine - it's also a time to honor the incredible contributions of women throughout history. In honor of celebrating Women's History Month, we're shining a spotlight on the inspiring women who have made significant contributions to the telecommunications industry.
Sarah Bagley:
In 1846, Sarah Bagley became the first female telegraph operator. She was also a women's activist that advocated for shorter workdays in factory and mechanics to cap the work hours at 10 in the state of Massachusetts. Bagley did factory work at the Hamilton Mill in Lowell, MA.
She went onto become the President of the Lowell Female Labor Reform Association and she was appointed as the corresponding Secretary of the Working Men’s Association. Needless to say, she was a powerhouse that wasn't afraid to use her voice for creating a beautiful future for women in business.
Hedy Lamaar:
Hedy Lamarr, a multi-passionate woman renowned as a Hollywood actress, also made significant contributions to the telecommunications industry.
Her innovative work alongside composer George Antheil led to the development of frequency hopping technology during World War II. This invention, initially intended to enhance torpedo guidance systems, laid the groundwork for modern spread-spectrum communication technologies.
