IPCC report

This month, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change ( IPCC ) released its latest report that reveals our planet has already warmed by 1.1 degrees Celsius since pre-industrial times -and its consequences are far-reaching. The burning of fossil fuels and inequitable energy usage have caused more frequent and intense extreme weather conditions across all regions, resulting in devastating effects to both people and nature alike.

“We are at a crossroads. The decisions we make now can secure a liveable future,” said IPCC Chair Hoesung Lee . “I am encouraged by climate action being taken in many countries. There are policies, regulations, and market instruments that are proving effective. If these are scaled up and applied more widely and equitably, they can support deep emissions reductions and stimulate innovation.”

UN Water Conference

The UN 2023 Water Conference concluded with a historic action plan - the Water Action Agenda. This game-changing initiative contains almost 700 ambitious commitments to safeguard humanity's most valuable asset: fresh water. The Agreement calls for making smarter food decisions and recognizing how this invaluable resource can drive economies and preserve cultural heritage around the world.

UN treaty to protect the marine environment

UN member states recently made history by coming to a worldwide agreement on the very first international treaty meant to protect our high seas. This groundbreaking step is being celebrated as an essential move toward support for marine biodiversity and sustainable development. With this pioneering accord in place, we can now work towards protecting 30% of land and ocean around the world.

UN climate justice resolution

In a major victory for climate justice, the United Nations adopted an unprecedented resolution that legally holds polluting countries accountable. With its co-sponsorship by over 120 nations, this landmark decision serves as both a crucial litmus test and catalyst of global action toward mitigating the effects of climate change. United Nations

Verra Carbon Offset programme

Verra one of the foremost carbon credit certifiers in the world and utilized by major entities like Disney, Shell, Gucci - among others to offset their climate-related impacts - is transitioning away from its rainforest offsets programme due to existing flaws.

“Our economic system and our planetary system are at war. [..] What the climate needs to avoid collapse is a contraction in humanity’s resources; what our economic model demands to avoid collapse is unfettered expansion. Only one of these sets of rules can be changed, and it’s not the laws of nature."

- Naomi Klein
